For example, if I want a particular Kontakt library for bass guitar, BFD 3 for drums, Ujam for guitar, and Halion SOnic GM for everything else, what is the best way to do that?

Hi,

You'd have to assign the plugins to the tracks on an otherwise blank song file, then save it, and use it as a starting point for any future projects.

Thanks

Thanks. The problem I am having is that most of the virtual instruments I try play no sound or are playing the wrong the notes. I take it the VST needs to be set with a GM mapping. Anything else?

But that does not work when importing a midi song.. So how to have a default setting, with assigned VST in each track, (Melody and Solo) that stays there when importing miditracks?

Hi Trygve,

You could always assign Kontakt (or any plugin) to those tracks, and save that as a template. Importing a MIDI file won't remove the plugins, but this won't really save you much time, if any.

Also, you won't really be able to pre-select your sounds in the template, unless every MIDI file uses the same channel for every instrument (this doesn't tend to be the case).

Musicmanicny, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I can't imagine why they'd be playing wrong notes, but if you call our tech support line, I'm sure we'll figure it out. Regarding them playing the wrong sounds, most plugins can't be configured to work with GM, so you'll likely have to manually re-assign the patches to each track on a song-by-song basis, unless you use the same style for every single song.

Thanks

BiaB is not the answer for this you need to get the basic song file started there using a good gm midi set and then move over to RB or some other DAW

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
