Dark Days In 2016 I had a dream about a grunge band which split before they got a record deal, but I heard one of their demo song called Dark Days, and I thought in the dream that the song was worth recording. When I woke up, I thought I had to write down that song, although I had only the title and the mood of the song left in my mind. This is what I managed to reconstruct from that dream. This is one of my favorite songs, I'm really satisified with the story, the melody and lyrics especially in the bridge and the outro part, but I think the chorus might still need some rethinking, some issues with rhyming. You may need to study what "great attractor" and "eternal return" mean Anyway, BIAB was a big help to create the right style for the song, the drums and solo guitarists fit perfectly my vision. RealDrums: MetalHalfTime, MetalSlowBigTomGroove RealTracks: Accordion #1292 Acoustic guitar #2051 Acoustic piano #1690 Electric bass #387 Electric guitar #1000, #1689, #390, #2584, #2585 Electric guitar solo #1530, #2586 Synth pad #1840 Sound effects: rumble, wood warbler Vocals: Janne (+BIAB audio harmonies in the bridge) Lyrics: At the beginning, we felt hot after the big bang, I still loved you a lot. The universe expands I have learned it by heart you said it thousand times when we grew apart. Dark days dark energy scatters the rays and pushes us away from each other to the blurred outskirts of space. Dark days the negative pressure repels the hopeless struggle against the guardian of the Great Attractor of love. I saw the symptoms of decay after the rapture, I still begged you to stay. The entropy increased you warned me to mind the gap no bridge across the rift on your stellar map. Dark days... You are a tiny satellite exploring cosmic sights unknown, new frontiers like those Pioneers. Once the light of my sky now a distant probe a shrinking dot in my telescope. Through the interstellar dust you have your wanderlust and when the last photon fully disappears beyond the Milky Way it's going to be a very dark day. Dark days... I recall the moment when a glimpse of sunlight played the romance in your hair but can't recall the clouding near the particle horizon hiding our flare shall it burn at the eternal return? --------------- Janne

I'm glad you've opted for the astronomically arcane rather than the astrological sort. Metaphors abound: love on other planets meets the black hole of relationship truth. Some good dynamics too.

You have interesting dreams... And you have successfully melded astronomical & human concepts into a pleasant song... I enjoyed the listen.

"At the beginning, we felt hot after the big bang, I still loved you a lot."
This is a great opening lyric. I like the chorus's kinetic energy as it pushes the song forward. I love the instrumentation.

Janne,
What a magnificent sound you've managed to create! You certainly know how to create a full, vibrant backing that stands professionally produced.
As rayc has said, metaphors abound. Your lyrics created some outstanding imagery within my mind. It sounds like you had a heap of fun creating and producing this song. It's a real credit to you!
All the best, Noel

That's a really great story behind the song. I find creatives tend to have things "come to them in dreams" quite a bit and I always love seeing the results! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Ember

Janne,
Marvelous opening! Cool sounds and killer guitar.
Terrific melody. Your chord progression, too. Nice vocals. The drums are excellent. Everything works to create an excellent sonic landscape. Good mix. You kept my attention the whole time. I really like this. An excellent piece of music.

Janne, A big sound - I like the changes and epic feel of this. The lyrics (far more literate than Grunge!),are cool. The rumble ending fits- and the mix very good.

I love the instrumentation. Thanks for liking the opening lines Also the 'kinetic energy' is a great description for an astronomical song, I'm glad you liked the chorus because I was thinking that the song is too long and I should probably do some editing on the expense of the choruses. Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
