Now that I've got 2010 up and running, I can see many of the styles, real tracks, etc. that, most likely, I'll never use. On every upgrade in the past, I've always loaded everything that comes with the program. But as the program increases with each upgrade, my question is this----can you delete those styles and RTs never in use without affecting the operation of the program? And, how is that done? And, wouldn't that free-up storage space on the C drive? My market is "dinner jazz" with a lot of swing styles, ballads, bossas, a little country, etc.. So much of the RTs I don't need. I have to scroll through a lot of stuff to get to what I'm looking for. I'd like to pare it down so to speak. Does everyone always load everything with the program?

hi J Larry,

Yes it is possible to delete Rt's and Rd's from the program

Normally with beta testing I download everything to test and then once finalized I remove those Rt's and Rd's I will not need and save them to a spare external drive (if you have the hard rive version and play from it you can still delete - according to how many you delete you can gain a tremendous amount of space and speed

After you take these actions you just have to Rebuild to get the reduced content

I make it policy to find anything other than BIAB files to delete when I get low on hard drive space, such as duplicate files, unused programs, old photos and music (burn them to CD or to external hard drive). It is easier to delete programs with the uninstall feature of Windows and/or the program itself.
I leave BIAB files alone because a) I will always find some from genres that I thought wouldn't work for me that work great, and 2) the files can be cryptic at times and I don't want to accidentally delete something that would cause problems.
Running from the usb drive that BIAB can be supplied on could work as well, but I prefer the internal hard drive option so I don't go that route.
It would be something worthwhile for PG to consider building in an uninstall routine for add ons. That would make life for you a lot easier, and who knows, after a while I might try it out myself.
Good luck.

If disk space is not a problem, just make a folder somewhere else on your drive for the RTs and RDs you don't want. Then move the unwanted RD/RT folders to that folder. That way, you won't lose anything in case you want them later.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Disk space is not a problem, since this particular laptop is used only with BIAB---no email, internet, virus protection, etc.. Think I'll carefully evaluate all the new stuff on 2010 and decide what to keep for daily use.

Yes, if disk space is a problem, and you are not planning to use certain Realtracks, (AND YOU HAVE A BACKP OF THEM SOMEWHERE), then you can just delete the Realtracks folders that you don't plan to use. If you "change genres" at a future time, and want those RealTracks back, you can always re-copy or re-install those folders.

If you've deleted RealTracks folders, nothing bad will happen, other than the RealTracks won't generate if you pick a song that requires it (and a yellow "hint" message will appear at the top right to tell you that).

Yes, given the size of the audiophile version copied to an internal hard drive, I've been doing it this way (deleting some of the Real Track folders) for two years. No problems. Plus, the updates are 'smart' - they only update what you have, without generating errors about what you do not have.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
