Hi All,

Sharing another new song - this is called VAMPIRES.

Push back the darkness be done
Walks with his eyes full of pain
Under a dirty cold rain
And we stumbled down the path
Like vampires under the sun

Trying to outrun the gun
Out in the morning so blue
Where some lies become truth
And we hide in the shadows
Like vampires under the sun

Then like the weight of a ton
You took off to fly all alone
Coltrane spins in the dark
And we fade out in the dawn
Like vampires under the sun

And we fade out in the dawn
Like vampires under the sun

All BIAB Tracks:

A moody elegant and atmospheric write. Excellent lyric, performed in your trademark manner.
Great use of the band - excellent chord solos, and a lovely big guitar and drum sound.
Excellent track.

Bob,

Peter said much of what I was about to...I like how he described it "A moody elegant and atmospheric write."

One more in a long line of songs that sound like they were recorded for an upcoming album...

It is popular these days in many of the cable shows to have the characters in a bar where a solo act or small group is playing on a small stage providing an atmosphere to what is happening (often, sparse, heavy conversation). (saw one last night - the latest episode of "Better Things"). THIS (you) could easily be one of those performers...

I really loved the moody tone to this song. When I first clicked on the thread I got super excited to hear some monster mythology weaved in to a song format. Then I played the song, heard the intro, and went back and started reading the lyrics. I realized it was more a metaphorical vampire, but I have to say I enjoyed the song just as much as I would have if it had been a song about mythology. Really liked the artistic choices you made and the imagery of this song. Thanks for sharing it with us!

"A moody elegant and atmospheric write"

Yep, Peter nailed it with three words...we would only add "cinematic" as this should get attention at the song libraries.

Add in a fine vocal performance and a pro mix...those drums are tremendous.

The roll continues and we are enjoying the ride.

Love the instrument choices

this band rocks

put me right there in the scene

Coltrane spins in the dark, you're gone

my drink sits unattended, melting

and I'm fading into nothingness

like a vampire in the sun

great write and performance,

Kenny

Really nicely done! It flows beautifully, and some of the lyrics really stand out to me. The backing track selection is excellent here as well - everything compliments eachother, especially your vocals.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing smile

Good set of allegorical lyrics...
Backed by a your usual well-done vocal, backing tracks, & production...
I had to listen a couple of times to let the lyrics sink in...
Good job!

Number 2914 is easy to recognize and has become one of my favorites smile Great use of it and plays well with the electric guitar. Dry mix matches nicely with your vocals. Interesting lyrical landscape, although blood wasn't sucked wink

Bob, I always enjoy your poetic lyrics. The band you’ve assembled here just kills. Big drums and fingerpick acoustic are perfectly complimented by the big chords of the electric lead. Nicely presented. The production is impeccable, Tom

Metaphors and similes abound in a very picturesque song that has a very supportive arrangement beneath it.
For my part the catch phrase/hook is the least convincing of your very credible writing...
"And we fade out in the dawn
Like vampires under the sun"
I think of all the fang flicks I've seen and the undead doesn't go lightly.
Ah, but those are my cinematic memories intruding.

Cheers

The understated anthemic feel...love it! I keep feeling like it's going to burst out into something much bigger, the the instrumental break happens; and it returns back to the other feel. I really like how you did that.

Really nice song!

Great lyrics. I especially like your extended metaphor. Great use of the instrumentation to establish a corresponding mood to mesh with the lyrics.

Bob,

Love your vocal here . . . and, well, on every song you sing for that matter—really engaging; you have your own, really worldly sound. Production is just killer, particularly the guitar in between the second and third verses—really crisp. Lyrics are poetic, with a superb hook. Incredibly well done! Enjoyed this a ton!

Kind regards,

Deej

I enjoyed it, I thought of Death Cab taking a Goth turn. Moody deluxe, which it has to be if you're gonna name a song Vampires. Great job!

Hey, I'm listening again today. I think this is my favorite tune I've heard here on the PG forum that isn't by a guy named Floyd. Today it reminded me of Thomas Rapp and Pearls before Swine, you gotta be old and quirky to know that group. Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

This is great.

I really love the rhyme schemes that you've used with the lyrics where the first two verses follow the asymmetric ABBXA and the final verse uses the more symmetric ABXBA. As I see it, this is really clever control of the lyric movement and a perfect match for the mystery of vampires.

As I'm sitting here thinking about it, what makes the rhyme scheme work so very effectively for me is...

1. the perfect rhyme on the first last lines in all verses

2. the odd number of phrases/lines with the asymmetric rhyme schemes really boosts the lyrics' emotional content

3. the third verse's symmetric rhyme scheme with the added tag gives a nicely balanced sense of completion and finality

You've used rhyme to drive this bus on a wonderful ride!

All the best,
Noel

Bob,

As Peter said, a moody elegant and atmospheric write!
The combination of 2914: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Folky16thsBrent Ev16 085 and 4 beat bass drum is very effective.
Your vocal perfect fits this tune.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Really, really cool tune Bob!! I don't think there's anyone on the forum who has more a definable sound than you do. Your songs have a great sound and a great groove always! This is one of your best!! Take care. Greg

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
