Hi All,

This is a new song called Fight Like A Girl.

I’m watching you from the window
In this rundown Soho dump
Ordering coffee and bagels
From the guy in that blue truck

He’s trying to make some time with you
His jacked-up humor and vices
But you're an old street fighter
He's bowing out to avoid a crisis

They say you fight like a girl
They say you fight like a girl
I think you fight like a girl
C’mon and fight like a girl

Driving off to the mountains
The Tappan Zee is thick with cars
Rolling fifteen miles an hour
While you count all the stars

Friday night highway honcho
Red flying truck and no blinker
Let’s bury the hatchet and move on
But you give him the third finger

They say you fight like a girl
They say you fight like a girl
I think you fight like a girl
C’mon and fight like a girl

I’m watching you from the bedroom
You fix the heat and shut the light
If I ever stumble over us
Hit me hard with some of that fight

They say you fight like a girl
They say you fight like a girl
I think you fight like a girl
C’mon and fight like a girl

This is really beautiful. The inverted chord you use as your starting point for the hook works so well! It's hard to give a review in words for this song because it's an experience - it has to be heard and not picked apart in words, I feel. But, in short, I loved it. Great lyrics, also.

Fantastic arrangement and mix once again, I would have used lighter drumming in the first verse, but otherwise it is perfect, electric guitar used interestingly and that piano gives exciting mood. Great vocals and very enjoyable chording.

I think the simplicity and cleverness of the chorus lyrics make it one of the best choruses I've seen in a while. It also makes for a catchy title. Nice production!

Extra fine lyric and that chorus is a thing of beauty. Just the kind of thing two intimates can say and hear. Brought a smile to my face. Your voice carries it well and the band plays with subdued power and purpose.

And the hits just keep coming...

Love this lyric, Bob. I can't say why, but for some reason, it made me think of Steve Forbert's debut album "Alive On Arrival" - an all-time favorite of mine... (if you don't know that record, find it and have a listen - I'm pretty sure you would like it)

You are using the BAND to perfection these days to showcase your songs and your sound.

Excellent write!

my goodness, you're turning out monster songs

the mix and production are so good, it seems like everyone here is getting better and better at mixing

I feel like I need to step up my game

He’s trying to make some time with you
His jacked-up humor and vices
But you're an old street fighter
He's bowing out to avoid a crisis

I love these lines because they tell so much about

strength of character and personalities - great writing

tying in watching you from a window/bedroom is a nice dovetail

the use of the Alt-Country Moody is excellent

enjoyed,

Kenny

You really knocked this one out of the park - the lyrics on this are extremely memorable, and your vocal delivery enunciates them perfectly. The tune has a lot of personality, and is really memorable. As others have mentioned - the chorus on this is superb. It isn't necessarily a very catchy chorus, but it definitely hits hard.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing smile

"Dump" and "truck" on rhyme lines...way, way cool smile

Release after release this year of consistently great tunes...not just good but great.

"He’s trying to make some time with you
His jacked-up humor and vices
But you're an old street fighter
He's bowing out to avoid a crisis"

Kenny has already quoted that line but we had to also...it is power packed.

There is a "togetherness" of your vocal delivery, choice of lyric, melody and BiaB components that is very special. You've carved out your own unique place on this forum and we feel that the same thing would happen even if you were part of large Americana playlists...as you should be!

Wonderful,

J&B

Bob, you are quite the weaver of words! Frankly, I am envious of how you can kick out high quality tunes like this in such rapid succession! I love those little guitar swells you used so effectively! Little touches like that really make a song! Thanks, Torrey

"The Tappan Zee is thick with cars" sounds like a Paul Simon line. I think it's good you kept some mystery about the nature of her fighting. Frustrating sometimes for the fan/listener, but it's what the big writers do, so it must be right.

Hi Bob ...

You have one of the most signature sounds on the forum. You are a master of taking 2 or 3 chords, add a little here and a little there and come up with a fantastic, mind-blowing song. The strength of your lyric has already been noted several times and I couldn't agree more. You're imagination makes so many turns and seems to always end up at the perfect place.

Love the song and have a full appreciation for your work. Wishing you the best ...

Alan

The two chord insistence is a stroke of genius Bob, it so matches the sentiment of the lyrics. Another cracker of a song, superbly produced.

Bob,

This is brilliant. I wish I had written it. Totally jealous. It gave me goose bumps. It is one of my favorite songs now, ranking right up there with the best of Lou Reed, Bowie, or Dylan.

It needs to be the theme song to a major motion picture.

A masterpiece.

Hi Bob,

Wow this is good.

I love that opening verse.

This is such good scene-setting writing. Time is set to 'right now' using the present verb tense and I love how 'watching you from the window' sets location so very, very well.

I also loved the phrase "friday night highway honcho". Those three long "i" sounds sitting side-by-side and the way they seamlessly overlap with the "h" alliteration is excellent ear candy! When I heard you sing this, I had to stop the track and just repeat the line a few times to myself... it caught my fancy smile

Terrific listening!

All the best,
Noel

I'm really surprised I missed this song, Bob
But it seems that way. I cannot add something new after what all others wrote. A very nice song.
I like the backgroundvoices, so subtle present but ominous (in a way).
All the time I expected you to raise your voice somewhere in the chorusses, but you stayed 'at ease'.

Thans Bob,
Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
