Angela (Ooh La La)
© 2019 Kenny Leverett

Angela sings in the morning
Sometimes it’s the first sound I hear
Maybe she’s puttin’ on a fresh pot of coffee
Come back to bed now Angela dear

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela

It’s Saturday and there’s no need to hurry
No reason to rush around at all
Bills are paid and there’s money for dancin’
Maybe make that trip to Montreal

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela

If I was a poor man with nothing
Nothing in this world would I fear
With the sweet love you have just to warm me
Come back to bed now Angela dear

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela
Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my angel Angela

Wow Kenny! This definitely had a good energy on this one. Really dig the Bodran too. Excellent harmonies on the vocals too. Well done!

Kenny,

Yikes! This is tremendous!

It sounds like a lost track from The Band... You are a masterclass in songwriting and performance.

I love it!

I got one too. A very fun listen. That rhythm is infectious and you laid in there with it wonderfully.

A superb track Kenny. Bob Dean said, this is Band-like and sounds just as good as their tracks, a very professional sound going on there. Great choice of instrumentation and the vocal delivery is just right.

Cheers

Kenny,

Still ON FIRE. Each new track seems better than the last (and "the last" was killer).

Everything about this is top shelf.

Amazing write. Sounds like a instant classic.

Awesome BAND. Love the percussion. Excellent mix.

One of your all time best vocals. In-the-pocket energy (without the "too hot" thing ever). Whatever you are doing....keep it up!!!

Incredible stuff.

Yeah, I dig it. Had a listen yesterday but didn't have time to comment. Good reason to give it another spin smile

Always enjoy your lyrics, so well written! And that signature vocal too. I see a couple people mentioned a lost track from the band, I didn't notice that yesterday, but it does have that sort of vibe about it.

Very good, Kenny, as your songs always are!

Kenny,

Crackles with foot stomping energy! That`s a terrific use of the chopping fiddle style
and bodhran... but its your vocal that`s the highlight for me. I think you`ve found the way to record/mix your voice with nothing lost now.
Can`t think of anything that could be better on this fun song... except maybe to dance to it!

Kenny,
First of all, cool tune! Sincerely enjoyed it!
Probably what's really important in my dilettante view is that you are trying different things musically. Meaning, you are not shy of experimenting with lyrics, styles and uncommon choices of instruments for the genres. That is what makes stuff interesting! "Angela" sounds great in all respects. I would not change a thing.

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

How do you turn out such quality so fast? Ooh la la and your raspy voice brought the Faces to mind, but it was nothing like that, it was its own good thing. Keep em coming.

Not getting that Band vibe here...maybe a little Mellencamp but mostly a LOT of Kenny!

We streamed it several times on a day trip today and it had Janice singing harmony immediately and talking about how "danceable" it sounded.

One word really comes to mind: Memorable. It just invites more plays. Listening now on the monitors and it sounds great as it did on the Subaru system (a good one).

This is one of those standout nothing left to add nothing left to take away mixes.

Fiddle is amazing...don't have that in the 2018 Mac...hopefully will when 2019 is released.

Percussion is perfect for the stripped down lyric and groove. And the lyric showcases your ability to say things in cool and unique ways.

Great!!!

Wow, Kenny! This is superb! I did pick up a little Band vibe in it. I've always been a fan of The Band, especially after The Last Waltz.

But Like Bud and Janice said, this is definitely YOU. Your craft is coming through loud and clear on it, and I really like it. The energy in this song is just right for the lyrics, and the choice of instruments and style is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing!

Kenny this is your best to date IMHO. Super groove and backing tracks and an outstanding vocal. Well done!

This sounds like a blend of Smookie and New Riders of the Purple Sage to me. But it really is Kenny at his best.

Super song!

Your vocal style is really perfect in this song.
Great arrangement and performance.
I have to admit to being disappointed by the lyrics of the chorus but that's probably because I'm verbose, at best, and way too wordy. If it were mine I'd see it as a missed opportunity to try to be a clever dick but to everyone else it's a humdinger.

Kenny,

This has such a nice feel to it . . . don’t know why it reminds me of the Counting Crows--could see Duritz doing this . . . just has that vibe to me. Well put together production wise. . . and a nice hook and vocal keep my ears engaged. Nice work, good luck with it.

What a tune! The first thing that caught my ear was the somewhat unusual percussion on it. The groove is absolutely infectious, and all the while unique. And of course, your vocals soar here - the harmonies on that chorus are fantastic.

Great groove, fiddle, bodran and the loop work well together. Sounds like the first hit single, with modern commercial sound, from a follow-up album to the previous classic one smile Your voice just gets better every hit you make.

Hi Kenny,

I just went to have a listen to this but the link is not working.

I mention just on the off-chance that that's correct. (It occurred to me that maybe something might happened with Soundcloud that you did not know about.)

Sorry I missed my opportunity!
Noel

Angela (Ooh La La)
© 2019 Kenny Leverett

Angela sings in the morning
Sometimes it’s the first sound I hear
Maybe she’s puttin’ on a fresh pot of coffee
Come back to bed now Angela dear

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela

It’s Saturday and there’s no need to hurry
No reason to rush around at all
Bills are paid and there’s money for dancin’
Maybe make that trip to Montreal

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela

If I was a poor man with nothing
Nothing in this world would I fear
With the sweet love you have just to warm me
Come back to bed now Angela dear

Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my Angela
Angela ooh la la
Ooh la la my angel Angela

Bass 1162
Fiddle 3158

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for posting a new link.

Gosh this is very, very good!

I love that groove and your instrument choice is perfect! What's more is that everything about this sounds like a group playing on the radio. It's so easy to picture you, lead singer, and all the other band members on stage having fun... very enjoyable music.

As you have probably already realised, I often focus more on lyrics these days than music. That's probably because I'm pretty new to writing lyrics and I'm always on the look out for tricks and strategies to add to my toolbox.

You've done a couple of things with the words that seriously impressed me.

The "Angela ooh la la" line is almost a mirror reflection when you repeat it as "ooh la la my Angela" -- how clever is that! Firstly 'Angela' rhymes with 'ooh la la' and then 'ooh la la rhymes with 'Angela'. It's kind of like a sandwich of rhymes and it's incredibly effective! The 'lah' rhyme doesn't sound tired or overused at all even though it's used six times in two lines. What it did to me was that it pulled me into the song and made me sing along with it every time it was repeated! What a great device. That's now added to my toolbox smile I just have to think about some words to use it with.

And I love verse 3 where you end line 1 with "nothing" and then start line 2 with a different interpretation of "nothing". That's a terrific strategy, too. Again, it's added to my toolbox.

Thank you for a great listen and for giving me some lyric-writing inspiration.

All the best,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
