Haven't worked on any new songs for a while so no BIAB files since 628 upgrade opened in RB.

today opened a new BIAB file using all real tracks in RB to find slight and faint background 'crackle' with my normal driver set up of Windows Audio. soloing tracks shows all tracks are affected but its heaviest on the bass.

all other files previously created in BIAB using only real tracks and opened in RB and saved as seq file are fine using Windows Audio so i thought it was file related, however just to check, BIAB sgu files that played fine in RB before i saved them as seq files in RB are also affected when i open the old sgu file in RB.

problem disappears if I use MME in RB. haven't tried asio as yet as it means connecting my interface but anyone any idea what might be happening?

obviously not a problem as MME is fine for playback and I imagine ASIO will be fine for recording (I hope!)

wav files play fine using Windows Audio in Audacity

not a real problem but i'm puzzled. and following previous posts is an udate to RB planned?

UPDATE! just remembered I have asio drivers with my soundcard and using them the problem disappears too in RB.

so is this a BIAB issue or a rb ISSUE?

We have found that WAS doesn't work well with all audio interfaces. If you have ASIO, that would be the best route (especially native drivers designed for your particular sound interface).

However, with the WAS drivers, make sure you are set to run BIAB as 16 bit, 44.1Khz. If it is set for 48KHz, you may experience sound anomalies as described.

I've got a Behringer UMC404HD audio interface and it works great with my ASIO drivers, but horribly with WAS drivers. Others have described similar issues. And for others everything works fine with WAS. Go figure.

thanks jford. what puzzles me is that it worked fine until yesterday! if i can describe the sound it's a like a faint clipping as if the audio is about to overload

You probably already have done this but just in case if you think that it is faint clipping them check each and every volume control you have on your system. This include each track, master volume, effect(s) volumes etc.

Also solo each track to see if you can pinpoint the problem.

Windows' updates can mess with audio also so check
win audio settings.

Good luck.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

mmmmmmmmmm maybe Bil Gates and Peter Gannon have settled their differences. the problem has disappeared. RB updated to latest version but there is no mention of the crackle being fixed.

not the first time a BIAB or RB problem has just disappeared - but it was never a real problem as MME was a workaound but WAS is now working just fine.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
