I am new here and am considering buying band in box. But before I do this I have some important questions.

I have the following components;
1. Focusrite Scarlett 2. External sound card latest edition.
2. EZdrummer drum sound software.
3. Korg M1 software.
4. Alesis Q49 midikeyboard.

I want to use ezdrummer sound on the drum parts, and the Korg M1 on the rest of sounds. I would then use the Alesis keyboard to play with the band in box.

I'm going to use this live, along with the song choir group I support.

Is this possible and get band in box? and is there any detailed howto on how to do this?

As long as you can play audio and midi out to a device that connects to a PA you can use BIAB.

Frankly using the drum software is probably redundant because real drums which come with BIAB are audio files of real drums (hence the name) so they sound like a proper drum kit. Same too with the Korg M1 for midi sounds.

Look at Peter Gannon's 'no brainer' post and you'll see how to get the TTS1 soft synth with the free download of Cakewalk. That gives you Roland midi sounds which BIAB uses as the benchmark for its midi sounds when developing styles.

So if you have BIAB (and the soft synth) all you need to do is connect the Scarlett 2 to the PC, the outputs of the Scarlett 2 to the PA and its all up and running. One usb connection and one connection to the PA. Much simpler than the various odds and ends you suggest, but unless you've used BIAB you probably won't know how easy it is. In real terms you will in my opinion, get sound as good if not better than with the drum software and the korg.

Just a suggestion, with BIAB you get RealBand free as a separtate program that complements BIAB and that gives you a lot more power and options for mixing/editing the final track. It also means that you can ensure the track plays exactly the same every time rather than BIAB regenerating some of the parts.

PG Music has the best support of any software I have come across and you can always get your money back if you decide it's not for you within 30 days. Download it and try it.

But word of advice, you will probably be best buying the most comprehensive package you can because that way you get all midi and RealStyles. Most of us that bought the lower packages ended up upgrading because the possibilities are so much greater if you ahve the wider choice.

Thanks for the complementary response.
But I have a look at the overview of the different styles that come with this program, and see there is a lot of country and jazz. but as a Scandinavian I play a lot of old Swedish valz, hambo, polka, shottis, etc, and Swedish dance music. Can't see from their website and overview of styles that this matches the music style I am looking for! Or can you load other midi files or styles from other ceyboard brands and use them in band in box?

Yes. You can import or open midi files in BIAB.

Once you either create a song in BIAB using Midi instruments from BIAB midi Styles or import a midi file into BIAB and route the output to your Keyboard and use the Keyboard as the midi sound module. Although you will not load the Styles from your keyboard, once the midi file is routed to your keyboard, you can select any of its styles you desire.

If you use RealTracks, which is recorded audio that plays the chords, tempo and arrangement of the BIAB chord chart, you will have to also route that audio separate from the midi.

Hi

BIAB is a great program if you use it as designed to do what it’s meant to do, generate songs from chord sequences.

You can use midi files in BIAB but they are more useful in Realband as you have more tracks available.

You can not use style files from arranger keyboards internally in Biab.
They area completely different format and have at the most 4 variations where as BIAB can have up to 40 that are assembled by the program intelligently based on your previously entered chord sequence, it is able to therefore look ahead and make choices.

There is a setting that can be activated to send your chords out on midi channel 9 which you could be used to trigger the styles on most arranger externally from BIAB playing the chord sheet, providing you know how to set up your keyboard for chord detect and midi input to styles.
You would need to select your style and variation on the keyboard up front before sending the chords from BIAB.
I don’t know of a way of sending style variations without getting heavy and into System Exclusives.
Just some thoughts.
Mike

I'm getting a little wiser here.
Let me understand this right, even though I don't understand how to use this system yet! not even where to start. Have previously only worked with an external Qawai siquencer and programmed styles in the Roland RA-800 module, but it is now some years ago.

If I understand you !, I can import midililes to BIAB and use batches of these to build new music files. Is that what you mean?

With midi files, you can import or open a midi file in BIAB. You can apply a BIAB midi style and use an assigned default midi player or assign a midi player that will provide the sounds from the midi file. You can also route a midi file that's open in BIAB to play your keyboard as the sound module.

You can modify styles or create new styles with the BIAB program.

Nothing for me, am go for Mixcraft 8 and covert all files to mp3. I rather buy the midi files from the midi store http://www.midilagret.se/butik/

Much easier. And vid EZdrummer and Korg M1 then I get the sound that best suits the Swedish music we sing and play. We play a lot of type "Evert Taube, old dance and swedish dance music. If you take a tour since I cheese the link to you better you, if you take the time to listen to the various demos.

But thanks for all the information and help.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
