I've used drag and drop many times to create audio (.wav) and midi tracks to import into Studio One.

It works well!

Usually in the exported tracks the drum track counts in, and the other tracks join after two measures.

However this time the exported audio tracks did not include the count in measures. They started right in on the first measure. Only the MIDI track waited till the third measure.

When I play the tracks in BIAB I do hear the count in.

There must be something to control this, but I can't find it.

How do I turn on the count in for drag and drop?

(I need this because I can't figure out how to force Studio One to count in on playback. It only precounts when recording. I want the count in for practicing without recording)

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

What version of BIAB do you have (e.g. BIAB 2019)?

Also...

Are you up-to-date with the latest update for your version found at the link below?

https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

What style are you using? I'll load it and see if I can replicate your problem.

Regards,
Noel

Hi. Thanks.

Version 2018 (520)

The style is _RNBWARM.STY

I dragged the bass track from the radio button along the top edge to the WAV box in the Drop section. Then I did the drums and then Guitar 3.

It seems like there must be a setting someplace to skip the first two measures of audio tracks when exporting. How else could this happen?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi again, Steve.

See the graphic below.

Under the Audio menu, there's an option for setting for "Export Song as Audio". On older versions of BIAB, this was called "Render to audio" (or something similar).

If you click on that option, a dialogue window will open that contains the audio settings for rendering.

As far as I can determine, it is the Lead-in setting here that needs to be active.

If "Include 2 bar Lead-in" is not activated on your settings, click it on. You will then probably need to render the song to audio using the "Render" button (#4) for the setting to be remembered.

If you deactivate "One file per track", the render will create a single wav file in the same directory as your song. This needs to be deleted after the render as it will automatically attach (as audio) to the song file next time you open the song.

Hopefully, this is the setting that's needed.

Regards,
Noel

thanks. i'll give that a try.

I wonder how that setting changed since the last time i did drag and drop.

Maybe a software update changed the default setting?

UPDATE: it worked! thanks a ton.

Steve

I'm glad to hear that everything is up and running again.

I now suggest that you save your BIAB setup. That will make it easier to return to the present settings if the needs arises. The setting for this is under the Options menu.

In Studio One Pro just left click on the metronome icon, i.e. the metronome triangle. Left click turns it on during playback and a second left click turns it off.

I hope this helps.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
