I am running BIAB 2018 (version 268) and I use an iMac with the current Macos.

I have an M-Audio KeyRig49 Midi Keyboard Controller and for some reason I am not able to connect it correctly to BIAB.
I can't generate any midi sound in BIAB. I have tried the basic steps from the manual info and run the basic set up using Macos Midi Studio but no dice.
The KeyRig49 Keyboard shows in the MACOS MidiStudio set up but I can't get BIAB to "see it".

The keyboard works fine in my LogicX Studio and I also have an Apogee duet interface (used mainly for recording vocal).

The Midi keyboard connects direct to the iMac via USB., but BIAB doesn't see it no matter what I do.

Can you please assist ?

Many thanks,

Colleen & Gary.

In the CoreAudio MIDI setup, go to the Window menu | Show MIDI Studio (if necessary).

You typically need to Add External Device, then connect the OUT of the device (your keyboard) to the IN on the USB interface pictured there, by clicking and dragging a cable.

Next, you should restart Band-in-a-Box if it's already open. Go to the Options | CoreMIDI choose ports, and select your MIDI interface under Input.

I don't understand this either. Following your instructions above all I see is my USB Arturia keyboard and the IAC driver. Trying to connect a cable to IAC fails.

You're probably done with the CoreMIDI setup then, and you just need to select it in Band-in-a-Box under Options | CoreMIDI choose ports...

Hello all,
I am able t generate midi sounds from my external M-Audio Midi controller and select midi patches etc, however, I am not able to "record" midi played into the song. Any ideas?

You can record to either the Melody (more common) or Soloist track.
To record MIDI-only to the Melody track, you can type Command+R or go to Melody menu | Edit.. | Record Melody.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
