Today an update to BIAB was announced:

Quote:
An update is available for Band-in-a-Box® Version 2019
Download the Band-in-a-Box 2019 Build 633 update (200 MB)

Wonderful, great to see. But, with each update comes the obligatory statement:

Quote:
This is a cumulative update. VST DAW Plugin update to 1.14.2 (April 16) is included.

I take this language to mean that there has been no change to the VST DAW Plugin since April 16.

I feel like a lone voice crying in the night, but it sure would be nice to see more love shown to the VST DAW Plugin. Certainly there is room for improvement, even if minor adjustments to increase the functionality and workflow friendliness.

Am I alone on this?? Can I get an AMEN?

Adar has been working on the Mac version with new features added and bugs fixed so they should all be transferred to the Win version soon.

Another Amen! I actually have given up on it. I can not see, at least in today's configuration, how it would help my workflow. But, as you all know, lately I have little music time and in fact what time I do have I mostly use on these great forums.

Mario, you should be able to have as many midi tracks as you want now.
You could have one instance of the BB plugin on one track, this will send all the midi tracks/ channels to other tracks in the DAW with different Virtual Instruments on them,
now on another track you could have another instance of the BB plugin with more midi tracks sending to more tracks with virtual instruments.
Now you could have another instance that generated up 7 (or more) of the same midi track or different ones (I think they are going to add MultiRiffs for Midi also) and add a re-channel midi fx so all the channels will get sent to the one virtual instrument, then you just solo each track one at a time til you find the one that fits best.

Yes a very good point. However the last time I used the VSTi every time I drag and drops MIDI to my DAW the VSTi also wrote wavs to my C drive. I then had to remember to delete those wavs. Is this still happening?

Yes but an option to gen only midi is on the ToDoList, I put another request in, so hopefully next release.

BIAB VST ( both windows and Mac ) should be getting **all ** the love.

Maybe I'm biased. but for anyone who uses a DAW a lot - this has. to be the case.

Unless one is just using BIAB as a practice tool or jazz education aid..........

It's good with the plugin they are identical so when it's all settled down they should get the same features and updates at the same time.

Just a guess from years of observation around here, that's about 90% of users.

Going into October it's all about the new Biab 2020. Staff that just finished Mac 2019 I would think are moving over to Windows 2020 but they usually continue to do smaller updates. Whether that could include the VST, who knows?

Amen here too.

I actually only paid up for the 2019. upgrade because of the announcement of the Mac version of the BIAB plugin.

Yet I find myself unable to use this plugin at all due to all the limitations and bugs in this so far.

The chief limitation being of course the inordinate time it takes to do a regenerate after any change to an arrangement.

This is because of the render-to disk issue of course.

if I'd have known that this was going to be yet another promise of new functionality that simply fails I'd have kept my money.

New in 2020 BIAB VST

Besides a boat load of new RT and Midi Content, this item catches my immediate attention.

• There are over 40 enhancements to the Band-in-a-Box® DAW Plugin that works directly inside your DAW (Cakewalk, Reaper, ProTools, PreSonus, etc.) to generate styles, RealTracks, RealDrums, Multi-Riffs, and more. These include Audio Harmonies, Customizing Tracks, Bar and Song Settings and more. Audio Harmonies, RealTracks sound improvements (gap filling, thickening).

If it’s ready for prime time this sounds good. I know there was an attempt recently to add some upgrades to version 1.14.2 as a beta release that came out 1.16.12 Sadly it was a train wreck, and didn’t work on multiple platforms. Most who testing it had to roll back to the earlier version. My guess is that that was scrapped due to time restraints, and all efforts were diverted to version 2.0.

I was hoping some of the promised updates would be added to the first version, however I am supportive of this release as I feel progress is being made toward a very good goal. For me personally the plugin is in my workflow wheel house. If it takes a annual update to get it where it needs to be so be it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
