This problem started yesterday and despite going on live chat with Deryk, neither of us could figure out this issue. I havn't used biab for ages due to illness, so I had an idea for a tune and decided to go for it. Now for some reason, none of the real tracks would play. I checked the RT folder and I was gobsmacked when I found it to be empty. At Deryks suggestion I deleted the BB folder and re-installed from 2016 upwards. After doing that, the RT are STILL not showing up. So, I downloaded a few RT sets and there's still nowt showing up in the RT folder despite watching the files installing. There's no other biab folder, so where the hell are the rts going to ? There's 9'5gb of RT in the RT folder so some are getting in but not others HELP Driving me nuts
HI That’s very odd Personally I would look for them outside of Biab, just using the Windows File manager. Assuming a standard installation of Biab on C: I would expect to see them at: C: bb/ RealTracks I have the ultraplus build and have: 98.2 Gb – 117,896 files – 3,292 folders.
That a lot of files to go astray . Each realtrack seems to have 2 files one .WMA and one .bt1.
You could try searching all you drives for *.wma and see if a lump turn up some where odd (maybe accidently dragged and dropped) All the above assumes that you had your realtracks on C: and were not calling them in from say a hard drive or other location.
Hiya Mike I've done all that. I've two hard drives in my pc one for windows & one for music which is D. So, I've done a search and looked through all my bb folders including RT, but they just ain't there. Deryk is as flummuxed as I am
Mario, when I'm at the install stage, it says D:/ BB, and they havn't gone anywhere else. I DID a check on my D drive and no problems were found.
So are you saying in spite the above install path there are none on D: bb / RealTrack?
Just as a matter of interest have they found there way to C: ? (say c: bb / Realtracks) Or any other plugged in drive?
You say you say them go somewhere could you not try a few more and watch where they go. Something very odd here.
Mike PS Another point is drive D an internal hard drive, or usb hard drive as usb drives can change their letter if other usb devices are plugged in the letter can depend on the order the devices are plugged in.
Mike D is an internal drive which I had put into the pc when it was built for me. I've checked my C drive and they're not there. I'll download another set and see If I can spot where they're going
When you searched your drives, did you do it manually yourself or did you use the Windows search function?
If you didn't use Windows' search function, click on the drive in File Explorer so that you are at the root directory level and then type BASS, ACOUSTIC into seach and see what happens. You need to type it exactly as I have with a comma after Bass and a space between the comma and Acoustic
Since BASS, ACOUSTIC is the beginning of a number of Realtracks, if the Realtracks are somewhere, search will find them.
Probably not it, but just to be sure (since I've seen it before)...when you downloaded the installers, you did actually "run" each of the downloaded installer files and tell them where to install the content, correct? Are you saying the installer successfully installed, but then there is nothing there?

Thanks Noel, will do that in the morning, off to sleep here
Either turn off your virus protection or look at the virus protection's file locker. Some virus protection programs delete files while others place them in a protected file locker.

ok guys, turned off anti virus, re-installed biab ( 2018 ), did a fresh install, watched the RTs installing into D:/BB and yet looking at the RT folder there's nothing there. Did a windows search on C DRIVE AND D drive but that turned up blank.

This is probably far out there but by chance is your D:/BB folder in read only mode? Right click on that file and check all of the folder's properties.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
All sorted. I paused the anti virus and did an umpteenth install, still no real tracks, so downloaded all the packs manually and that's done the trick. Would dearly love to know why it all went belly side up to start with !
Glad you got it sorted Graham, I know the feeling when something goes wrong with Biab.
Don't know if you use Avast but I have had a lot of problems with it lately and music software, actually just changed to Kaspersky free, working fine at the moment.
Might be an idea to copy that whole BB folder to an external drive then if something goes wrong again, you can just copy it across.
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2024, Cubase 13, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use

I used the paid kaspersky for years but it was hogging almost half of my PC resources, SO 3 years ago I switched to esnet. £60 OR something, which is good value and it doesn't go away with a lot of your resources either

Hi
You two have me puzzled All my BIAB folders are read only including the main C: bb folder and all the sub folders like realtracks etc. Surely this is normal for software structure folders. However the individual files in the folder are not, read only.
If a folder is read only you can't add files additional into the folder but you can read whatever files exist within the folder.
I've only seen the setting used when someone is getting ready to archive a folder so they set the read only attribute. That effectively "freezes" the folder.

I'm still curious as to why it wrong to start with
I'm glad you found a solution and shared it with us since that was indeed a strange problem. Like you I'd like to know the root cause of the issue but I doubt we ever will know. I've got to admit I would never have thought to look at the folder attributes so that's some great sleuthing!
Computers are supposed to make our lives easier but they sure do require a lot of care, attention and upkeep.

That just don't sit right with me. Like Mike, said - all my BIAB data folders are "read only".
Here is a quick Google.
"...the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs. For example, you can delete, rename, and change a folder with the Read-only attribute by using Windows Explorer.
The Read-only and System attributes is only used by Windows Explorer to determine whether the folder is a special folder, such as a system folder that has its view customized by Windows (for example, My Documents, Favorites, Fonts, Downloaded Program Files), or a folder that you customized by using the Customize tab of the folder's Properties dialog box."
Everyone else, I'm doing a manual download of all the RTs, and that seems to be working fine
This might be a clue. Were you using some "non manual" download and install tool? I do a manual download and then install separately each of the RT packs individually. I thought everyone did that. I know BIAB may have a automated option, but it proved unreliable for me in the past, so I don't use it.

I was wondering the same thing Dan. I go manually as well.
This is a funny old thing. If you check the properties of a folder in windows 10 you would think it was read only but if you read, that is not quite what it says, Quote: Read only (only applies to files in folder) However the individual files in the folder are not read only unless set to be so. This is all very confusing but according to searches has been the case since 2015 or so. In fact google has pages on this subject. After much reading it seems as long as your individual files are not read only no need to worry . it all seems to be to do with permissions. Hence why sometimes you need to run as admin.
Mike you are correct. I original suggestion to check for read only was because I don't know what would happen to a read only folder that had no files in it. I suppose I could check to out but hey I'm lazy

Dan I was downloading all the RT sets manually. It took a while but luckily my broadband speed sits around 85mbps which is a godsend when downloading large files.
I'd like to say a big big thank you to everyone who took the time to try and help. Sad thing is that Deryk asked me on chat to email the support team, for more expert help than he could give. I DID, and am still waiting for a reply

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
