Hi All, I have my bb folder at the root of one of my hard drives where it also contains all the songs that came with the installation. I have my library of BIAB songs in another folder (and on another disk). This works OK but I feel that I should put ALL the songs in the bb folder so that I get the best use from the song and style picker utilities.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

HI Jonel
As the song picker can be set to look any ware for songs but only one place at a time, If you was to merge all your songs and inbuilt demo songs etc to one folder it would be so big as to be little use for finding anything. Myself, everything is where it was installed , but my own songs and others I have from elsewhere are stored in My Music / my biab songs, here they could be sorted into sub folders of genres say Country songs . This way in song picker I can just bring up my Country songs or all the built in demo songs depending where I point the song picker . Each song picker list is maintained separately.

Thank you. That is really the way I have it now but I wondered about whether BB could find the styles that are in the other folder?

I save my Biab song files to my individual Cakewalk project folders... Everything I do in Biab ultimately ends up in a Cakewalk Project File, potentially in support of of a finished music file.

hi again Thank you. That is really the way I have it now but I wondered about whether BB could find the styles that are in the other folder? Not with you here What styles in what other folder. All BIAB styles are in their installation location EG C: /bb/ Styles There are no styles in my song folders were ever they live. Regardless of a song’s location, if it needs to load a style it will expect to find in the installation location for styles. Do you have styles else where?? Mike

Well ... going back to those BIAB files I downloaded some time ago, I did a search for '.sty' extensions and found quite a lot of these. So, I suppose I could copy these to the BB sub folder

Hi
I see, well I guess they could be user styles that someone has created I have not played with that side so have no idea where they live. Sure one of our resident experts will know though, so I look forward to learning. Mike

You can have third party styles in any folder alongside the songs that use them. However usually it's best to put the styles in the bb\Styles folder. That way they will show up in the StylePicker, and you can also use them with any song without having them saved in the same folder as your song file. As for the best location to save your songs, there isn't really a best location, but a good place would be the bb\Songs folder.

I do miss when styles resided in the main BIAB folder, but could also reside in a "Styles" folder under the main folder. I kept all the PGMusic styles in the main BIAB folder, but put all my 3rd party styles into the "Styles" folder.
I kind of wish when the folder reorganization was done that there could have been both a "Styles" folder and a "UserStyles" folder. That way, I could keep my 3rd party styles separate from the styles provided by PGMusic.

+1 I really would rather keep my 3rd party styles, wherever they came from, in their own folders. My preference would be to have subfolders within the bb\Styles folder that could have their own style picker list.

Looks like a wishlist request to me!

I agree. Some years ago I had purchased some 'Expanded' styles and I stored them in the main bb folder. Unfortunately it seems that a later upgrade of BIAB has removed them. Being in their own folder would have helped.

It would be nice if you could have a solution such as:
..\Styles ..\Styles\System <-- the PGMusic provided styles ..\Styles\System\Style Pak #1 (etc.) ..\Styles\User <-- user and 3rd party styles ..\Styles\User\Norton <-- I could put all my Norton styles here ..\Styles\User\Norton\Style Pak #1 (etc.) ..\Styles\User\Lasse Ramberg styles ..\Styles\User\Other Styles
etc.
(and yes, I realize this isn't the wishlist forum, but I've made this information known to PGMusic multiple times in the past).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
