Glad you got it sorted Graham, I know the feeling when something goes wrong with Biab.
Don't know if you use Avast but I have had a lot of problems with it lately and music software, actually just changed to Kaspersky free, working fine at the moment.
Might be an idea to copy that whole BB folder to an external drive then if something goes wrong again, you can just copy it across.
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2024, Cubase 13, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use

I used the paid kaspersky for years but it was hogging almost half of my PC resources, SO 3 years ago I switched to esnet. £60 OR something, which is good value and it doesn't go away with a lot of your resources either
This is probably far out there but by chance is your D:/BB folder in read only mode? Right click on that file and check all of the folder's properties.

Hi
You two have me puzzled All my BIAB folders are read only including the main C: bb folder and all the sub folders like realtracks etc. Surely this is normal for software structure folders. However the individual files in the folder are not, read only.
If a folder is read only you can't add files additional into the folder but you can read whatever files exist within the folder.
I've only seen the setting used when someone is getting ready to archive a folder so they set the read only attribute. That effectively "freezes" the folder.

I'm still curious as to why it wrong to start with
I'm glad you found a solution and shared it with us since that was indeed a strange problem. Like you I'd like to know the root cause of the issue but I doubt we ever will know. I've got to admit I would never have thought to look at the folder attributes so that's some great sleuthing!
Computers are supposed to make our lives easier but they sure do require a lot of care, attention and upkeep.

That just don't sit right with me. Like Mike, said - all my BIAB data folders are "read only".
Here is a quick Google.
"...the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs. For example, you can delete, rename, and change a folder with the Read-only attribute by using Windows Explorer.
The Read-only and System attributes is only used by Windows Explorer to determine whether the folder is a special folder, such as a system folder that has its view customized by Windows (for example, My Documents, Favorites, Fonts, Downloaded Program Files), or a folder that you customized by using the Customize tab of the folder's Properties dialog box."
Everyone else, I'm doing a manual download of all the RTs, and that seems to be working fine
This might be a clue. Were you using some "non manual" download and install tool? I do a manual download and then install separately each of the RT packs individually. I thought everyone did that. I know BIAB may have a automated option, but it proved unreliable for me in the past, so I don't use it.

I was wondering the same thing Dan. I go manually as well.
This is a funny old thing. If you check the properties of a folder in windows 10 you would think it was read only but if you read, that is not quite what it says, Quote: Read only (only applies to files in folder) However the individual files in the folder are not read only unless set to be so. This is all very confusing but according to searches has been the case since 2015 or so. In fact google has pages on this subject. After much reading it seems as long as your individual files are not read only no need to worry . it all seems to be to do with permissions. Hence why sometimes you need to run as admin.
Mike you are correct. I original suggestion to check for read only was because I don't know what would happen to a read only folder that had no files in it. I suppose I could check to out but hey I'm lazy

Dan I was downloading all the RT sets manually. It took a while but luckily my broadband speed sits around 85mbps which is a godsend when downloading large files.
I'd like to say a big big thank you to everyone who took the time to try and help. Sad thing is that Deryk asked me on chat to email the support team, for more expert help than he could give. I DID, and am still waiting for a reply

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
