I'm trying to solve a digital static problem (there's another thread about that) and it may hinge on the settings of the Integra-7. If you are using an Integra-7, especially if you connected it using the S/PDIF cable, please reply. I'm going to ask you a couple of questions. Thanks!

Yes I use Integra7 with everything - but not with S/PDIF, sorry. I can go grab fiber and hook direct to 18i8 and see what happens if you want? May take a while to get behind rack and do it - just an FYI.

But using analog the I7 even if output volume is max, again analog, there is no "buzzing" (or audio clipping/distortion unless mixer audio is also max'ed - LOL)

I think on the Roland forum they talk about the digital out volume giving distortion/buzzing/clipping, call it what you will, but it is NOT a sample rate thing either it seems. [s]I think it's inherent in Roland S/PDIF fixed circuit.
[/s]
EDIT I WAS WRONG above

Since I can only have one S/PDIF into most gear I opt for all analog into one mixer(s) into PC Audio I/O (in my case an 18i8 now). I use ALL analog except for the Montage which uses eight stereo pairs (16 channels) over USB, even there I have its mains (L/R) into analog mixer with all my other gear and is usually what I end up using, analog.

Larry

FAST EDIT skimmed it real quick it may or may not be a "fix"

Thanks Larry!

Yes, I'm way past the problem in that forum post. I am using the digital connection and that's the root of the problem. The forum poster did have the same problem, S/PDIF not syncing, but his solution is something I've always done (Vendor).

True, I could always just convert to all analog. I might just do that. I'm in the middle of working with the tech engineer at Focusrite. If you have no life and want to read my other thread about What is this Static, you'll see.

Copy - I'll go read your other thread and I see if I can't hook up S/PDIF on I7 to 18i8 and see what I get

Matt

This will not be any help:

USB set to Vendor and sampling rate (I7 Menu -> System -> Sound tab) at either 44.1 or 48 and output gain at 12 db (i.e., max again “sound” tab) and using S/PDIF (75 ohm RCA) direct to 18i8, 2nd gen with current drivers (but drivers are moot since I monitored over cans direct on front of 18i8, so no other audio signal paths involved) it is quite as a church mouse when idle and no noise, that I can detect, induced into I7 output when playing MIDI into it from BIAB

PS I’m NOT running the I7 as 5.1 (it’s off but on it made no difference either) again Menu-> System -> Motional surround tab, but again moot unless using USB audio since S/PDIF is 2-channel only.

mad And you should have reminded me (and dummy me should have opened manual) the I7 digital is not optical it’s 75ohm RCA so I get behind rack with wrong cable and I’m old and FAT, FAT , FAT so squeezing in and out sucks – grin LOL

EDIT before I re-config back to my normal config anything you want me to try with current S/PDIF to 18i8 and everything else disconnected
with this config (??

Many thanks, Larry. Yep, not optical.

I have an old Roland Fantom XR and an old spare Focusrite 6i6 first generation, so I've been able to replace all my equipment to test using something else and try to isolate the problem device. Still have the tech support stumped.

Yea I knew you had the XR from other past discussions we've had. But why are you using the XR with 6i6 (changing two things at once and removing BOTH suspected items). Why not use the 6i6 and I7 first, then if still an issue USE XR into 18i20, and then if still issue you've now isolated to something OTHER than either Focusrtie 18i20 or I7. Unless that was your troubleshooting plan anyway in which case, "never mind."

Sorry to confuse. Yes, I’m testing one thing at a time, as one must.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
