Here is my latest song:

Always Be My Friend

I used:

Evening evening ev 16 Brit 80s Rock
80 BPM
36 Fretless bass
54 Voice Oohs
26 Rap TR808 Drums
50 Slow Strings

I played keys on my PSRE403, which was routed through the Cl1 interface into Mixcraft 5.
I sang vocal though a SP1 mic, through Cl1, into Mixcraft 5.
Everything mixed in Mixcraft 5.

Thanks for any listens and comments.

Always be My Friend

I remember we first met
You were sweet as life could get
I kissed you in the gray London rain

Then I lost track of you
Heard you moved to New York too
Then you fled to L.A. on a red-eyed plane

Oh, oh, until we meet again
Oh, oh, you'll always be my friend

Thought I saw you in Shanghai
In a rickshaw wheeling by
But then again it didn't look like you

You called me from a Cairo street
Said in Paris we could meet
How I wound up here I never knew

Oh, oh, until we meet again
Oh, oh, you'll always be my friend

Bridge:

I really want to say
I miss you everyday
No matter where you are
No matter near or far

I hope we meet someplace
I hope I see your face
But my memory won't fade
Of the friend I've made

Oh, oh, until we meet again
Oh, oh, you'll always be my friend

Oh, oh, until we meet again
Oh, oh, you'll always be my friend

jpt,

A cool song. A good "Indie" sound to it. Good choice of tracks.

A very soulful vocal.

There is a Leonard Cohen vibe to this. That works well.

I enjoyed the listen.

it does have a last couple of albums Cohen sound to it. He'd have, & you ought to, wrap the vocal in the backing a little more even just using a little more reverb.
There're a couple of wavering notes that you could hold closer to the target with some automation.
Otherwise this is pretty solid.

I enjoyed this one - Ray and Floyd mentioned above that it reminds them of Leonard Cohen, and I can definitely hear that myself. I thought the vocals packed a lot of punch, personally. It flows smoothly and all ties together nicely.

Thanks for sharing smile

Hi jptjptjpt,

yes, definitely Leonard Cohen peeping around the corner...
Good write, your voice got soul. But Ray is (as usually) right the voice is too far above the backing track- it doesn't have to disappear in it, but both should form more of a unity.

But nevertheless: a very enjoyable listen !

Regards,

Stefan

Well, heck, we'll jump in with the Cohen references also. Indeed.

And a heartfelt soulful vocal backed by an excellent band!

Enjoyed it...

You've created a very haunting mood to your song. I like the keyboard bits you put in. I especially like the lyric

"Thought I saw you in Shanghai
In a rickshaw wheeling by
But then again it didn't look like you" Good stuff.

Sounds very original.
I particularly like this line.

"Then I lost track of you
Heard you moved to New York too
Then you fled to L.A. on a red-eyed plane"

Great moody piece, vocal was very good, good enough to fix the few off notes. Liked the globetrotting context, made me want to know more about the characters. Good work.

Your lyrics create the setting for a mysterious love-lost story...
Without giving away too many details of the relationship...
Nicely written & done...
Nicely sung...
I enjoyed the listen.

I agree with Scott here! Very nice soulful tune! I wonder if that (megaphone?) vocal effect could use a reverb touch to it...just a thought! Nice job! Thanks, Torrey

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
