Hi all, I recently purchased BIAB ultrapak 2020. I downloaded all the real tracks and ran the master install application.
Using the melodist I generated a few songs and noticed that some of the instruments were coming up as MIDI (I'm guessing yellow = MIDI and green = real track??) even though it's set to use realtracks if available.
I opened the download/install manager and there are 3 sets of real tracks that show as uninstalled. At first this would appear to answer my question (although it doesn't make sense that they would have been skipped when I ran the master install application).
But the odd thing is that when I click on 'install' and let them complete the process, it says installed, turns green, and the problem persists. Then after closing and reopening the download/install manager, the same 3 files show as uninstalled.
Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong? Please let me know if I need to provide more information.
If you log-in into your Sales account, though, and then go to My Products, all you sets of Realtracks will be there for download. From here, it is possible to download files and manually install them. This might help.
I did initially download all of the files directly from the My Products page (I didn't use the download/install manager to download the files as it was extremely slow for some reason). My reason for opening the download/install manager was to see if anything showed up as not being there. I've now tried installing them through the install manager as well as going directly to my BBDownloads folder where the .exe files are and installing them from there, but I still have the problem of what seems to be missing real tracks. Is there anything else I can check?
1. Some Realtracks (RTs) are not included in the in the new year's release. These are sold via the bonus 49pak. I wonder if it is these are are not installing.
2. If you go into Realtrack picker (see graphic below), there is a button located at the bottom, centre of the screen called "Rebuild". Click on this and see if it helps.
(note: if you desktop view is different from mine, use CTRL+T to toggle between views)
Thanks, I tried rebuilding but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Here's a couple of screenshots to better illustrate what I'm trying to explain.
The download manager shows this, no matter how many times I install the files either with the manager or in the download folder:
But as you say, it might be that I'm expecting to see real tracks where there shouldn't be any. For example, here's something I generated with the melodist. A MIDI piano is included where I would have expected a real one:
Using the melodist I generated a few songs and noticed that some of the instruments were coming up as MIDI (I'm guessing yellow = MIDI and green = real track??) even though it's set to use realtracks if available.
Yes, yellow==MIDI and green==RealTracks
The generated melody track uses MIDI for playback - so what you are seeing there is "expected". RealTracks can't play specific notes that you enter in notation.
The download manager install button is a strange issue - I'm not sure why it would show the install button even after you install, however stranger things have definitely happened, and in any case there is a better way to determine if all of the RealTracks are installed:
Open the RealTracks Picker, and check the "Show n/a" checkbox, then click the top of the N/A column to sort. If you have the current UltraPAK, then only RealTracks from set "800" should show up as N/A. We used 800 for the unreleased RealTracks included in the Bonus 49PAK. If you have the 49PAK, then there should be no N/A entries. The same thing applies to the RealDrums Picker.
So it seems that I have nothing missing that should be there as in the picker it is only the "800" tracks that aren't available.
Very strange as you say, because the download manager says the installation is 98% complete. I've also checked the install log and all the sets appear on the list, so they must be there.
One more question: in my bb/realtracks folder there are a few folders that are actually empty, for example "Bass, Electric, NashvilleRadioBalladA Ev16 075", "Bass, Electric, AmericanaPop8thsSteveA Ev 100", "Jaw Harp, Rhythm CelticSlideFastJig68Roots Sw 140" and more. Naturally this made me doubt that everything was installed. Is this also normal? And if so, what are they for?

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
