Here's a song I've been trying to record for years but have been limited by software. It uses 3/4 and 2/4 Time Signatures along with Tempo slowdowns in two places in the song.

I've had many problems using BIAB and RealBand 2020. I startes with BIAB 2020 to lay out the song structure and used Folk Pop Waltz Medium for the Style. It starts off in 3/4 time.

Didn't I By Horst Hartung 1972
3/4 Time Signature

Bar:#
09- You’ve learned, that life is hard,
17- Your dreams are now no more
25- And your heart has turned to stone
33- And now you want to come home

41- I told you when you left, that you’d find, the end

2/4 Time Signature
57- Didn’t I tell you woman, Didn’t I beg you to stay
73- And Didn’t I warn you woman, the day before you went on your way

Lead: Bar: 89 - 180

3/4 Time Signature
189- You felt the pain of life, your eyes have truly seen
205- Well I know how hard it’s been, for I too, have reached the end

221- I told you when you left, that you’d find, the end

2/4 Time Signature
237- Didn’t I tell you woman, Didn’t I beg you to stay
253- And Didn’t I warn you woman, the day before you went on your way

269- Awww Didn’t I tell you woman, Didn’t I beg you to stay
285- And Didn’t I warn you woman, the day before you went on your way

301- Didn’t I Didn’t I,
Didn’t I Didn’t I,

317- Didn’t I Didn’t I,
Didn’t I Didn’t I, Didn’t I Didn’t I, I said now Didn’t I Didn’t I,

333- Didn’t I Didn’t I,
Didn’t I Didn’t I, Didn’t I Didn’t I, I said now Didn’t I Didn’t I,

364- End

I only used the drums, and 690 Organ Real Tracks and did everything myself. I tried using a solo lead by Brent Mason and several Guitarists but it sounded like little blocks of caned lead and didn't flow. RealBand needs to improve the soloists realtracks cause they don't flow like real players.

I had to use two different drum tracks for the different time signatures....RealBand should use the Meter Map to do this automatically and should call it time signature Map instead of Meter Map. BIAB does this much better than Realband so when I imported my BIAB file into RealBand it got lost in the transfer. A real pain in the butt to do in RealBand. It also had a blank spot at bar 236 except for the drum track so I had to copy and paste using the Bar screen. RealBand needs to fix this....

The Tempo Chances were as follows:

Bar 175=152
Bar 176=135
Bar 177=119
Bar 178=102
Bar 179= 86
Bar 180= 70
and then Bar 181 goes back to tempo 152

It does this again at the end of the song.

I tried using the fill feature for the tempo map but it was just to much for Realtracks to handle.

I also had a problem with the Multiriff feature in Realband 2020...I couldn't get it to work????
So I tried playing my own solo and I suck at soloing....

RealBand has got a lot of things that need to be improved on. I don't know if anyone else has had the same problems....but it's just my two cents....

Despite all the issues, good job getting your song done. I enjoyed my listen. This song has the feel and sound of the group Poco who managed to do some pretty complex arrangements in their day too.

Really good to see a post from you again. I always enjoy your songs.

Nicely done - I thought it flows amazingly well, and was nicely catchy too. You managed to make it sound effortless despite the limitations you experienced.

Thanks for sharing smile

Horst, I really enjoyed the entire delivery of this.

The time signature changes are perfect, the whole song takes us back to some of the best 70's music every delivered.

This is really, really good.

Horst,
I like the way you handle the time changes- for all the issues you encountered ( everyone using RealBand has experienced meltdown moments as far as I can tell), the end result is a cohesive band sound.
The influences are clear and its still original- your vocal and harmonies on the 2/4 sections especially have lots of passion and the guitar solo sounds great.
I enjoyed this alot.

Robert

As previously stated those time signature change transitions are very good! Nice guitar and bass chops! Your vocal is exceptional.

I really like this!

Wow....

I thought everyone was going to jump all over me for complaining about some of the problems of RealBand but you all seem to really like the song....If there's anyone who can do a better solo lead than me...cause I really suck at playing lead, please let me know...I think it would be fun to jam and record with some of you.

Pretty cool...
Especially considering the complexities of the composition.
Good job...

I'll bet you've got a lot of patience smile

Hi Horst,

that's a truly remarkable piece of music - very, very cool and a great pleasure to listen to.

I know that sometimes that it doesn't really make any sense to mention the bands one is reminded of, but I couldn't help but think of Black Sabbath and also Moby Grape at some parts.

Great work on the guitars and the vocals.

Enjoyed this a LOT !

Happy New Year,

Stefan

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
