Eulogy To A Broken HeartHello Folks ... I HAVE RE-UPLOADED THE TRACK WITH THE ACOUSTIC LEAD VOLUME DROPPED A BIT AND THE HIGH EQ TRIMMED BACK SOME. I'M OKAY WITH THE BACKGROUND RHYTHM GUITARS BEING A LITTLE LOUDER THAN USUAL IN A TYPICAL MIX. ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT?I've not had much time for music over the past several months due to Di's ongoing health issues. I've recently listened to and commented on a few posts as I could. I'm missing out on some really great music! But, priorities, ya know. I worked on this in 15 - 20 minutes spurts over the past couple of weeks ... perhaps 4 hours total. So, it's not very polished. But wanted to get something new posted. It features acoustic lead guitar with two electric guitars lending support, as well as a nice bass and some sparse percussion. Hope you like it at least a little bit. Just a quick question ... is the acoustic lead a little too much out front? I'm undecided. Or, perhaps I should simply cut back a little on the higher EQ? Al, Evocative and moody (must be that baritone in the background), the lead acoustic is a new one for me and I really liked it. On my`phones the volume seemed good -( it needs to stand proud of the mostly electric band), though higher notes did seem a little hard edged. I`m glad to hear you are finding creative moments... that`s all someone with your skills needs to produce good music!

A very nice song - and some lovely acoustic playing. The mix sounds good to me (the acoustic was loud in headphones but better through speakers??).
Nicely done all round.

The acoustic lead doesn't sit so much forward as high in the mix, (I'm wearing sennheizer head phones), about 6cm above my head in fact. I'm not sure I'd pull back the level so much as ad a smidgen of reverb to move it back "down". Nice arrangement.

Al, that is a masterful use of BiaB.
That solo RT is a real treasure and, man, did you ever put it to good use.
The mix sounds good on our KRK's.
Best to the two of you!!!

Nice one! About the mix: I like the volume on the lead guitar but the rest of the band is a little too far back, for my taste. I'd say don't change the lead, bring up the band. moto

Nice listen! No strong opinion about the mix. I was just thinking I needed to work on my MIDI acoustic guitar soloing skills, but listening to this, I think my time might be better spent digging into the the BiaB solo guitars. Glad you found the time to make this!

Very nice, Al! The acoustic sounds good to me in the mix. I'm listening t the song on my PC's El Krappo speakers and it all sounds good. You know that is the real test on audio. Chord progression moves smoothly under the acoustic solo. Great title!

Alan, I hope that Di is doing better.
This is really a great instrumental. The backing tracks fit the lead perfectly.
Personally, I don't think that either bringing the backing tracks up or the acoustic guitar down as in one volume control is going to work. In the spots were the backing tracks get a little louder the acoustic fits perfectly but when the back tracks get softer the acoustic stands out too much. I think you would need to use volume animation on at least the acoustic track. Thus you can have the acoustic get softer in the more airy (less dense) parts of the song. YMMV
I really like this one.

Another nice use of the MURKY style on the forum, acoustic lead and congas give it a lighter touch. Smooth and beautiful chord progression, good use of held chords.

Hello Alan,
Immidiatly I loved that acousic guitar solo. Very nice! But I realized practically every post mentioned that. So Alan, it's true. It is a nice piece of work you did, although you have so little time considering your worries about Di. I listened to your song on my headphones (not 6 cm above my head like Ray does, but just on my ears). To me everything sounded well mixed, nothing to be changed. Aah, just read Jims' response above. I think that also applies to me!
All the best, Hans

I always enjoy listening to a good instrumental. This is no exception.
Given the short time you had available to work on the song, it's a great outcome.
I perhaps think that the lead could sit a tiny bit further back, not too much, just a tiny bit, please don't bury it.
Nevertheless, a great performance. Well done.

Janne Janne ... Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yes, I switched out the original drums and then added the acoustic lead. Thanks for noticing. the original drum track, and several similar ones, got in the way of the b/g guitars, so I used the congas instead. Many thanks. Best to you ... Alan

Dear Alan,
first of all: Congratulations on the 2019 award !!!!
Eulogy To A Broken Heart is really so beautiful. So smooth and gentle. I don't know how you can put such a beautiful thing together in less than 5 hours - it's amazing.
Great soloist track and I love the arrangement and the mix sounds very good, too.
Hope Di has recovered - big hugs to both of you!
All the every best to you both,
Stefan

Alan, your arrangements always shine. This is not exception. Dark and beautiful. Since you asked, yes, lead is a bit loud, but if you have not asked I would not even mentioned, because overall it is A+. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Everyone! Appreciate the kind words. I'll be back in a day or two to listen to a few more of your songs and leave a brief replay to each of you individually.
I HAVE REMIXED THIS AGAIN. I BROUGHT DOWN THE LEAD ACOUSTIC GUITAR JUST A BIT - MADE MANY MEASURE-TO-MEASURE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE VOLUME OF THE ACOUSTIC AS NEEDED. I PUT A LITTLE MORE REVERB ON THE ACOUSTIC SO IT WOULDN'T STAND SO "FORWARD" IN THE MIX COMPARED TO THE B/G GUITARS. I ALSO BROUGHT THE PERCUSSIONS UP JUST A BIT, TOO. I THINK OVERALL BALANCE IS BETTER NOW.
AGAIN, MANY THANKS.
DI IS HOLDING STEADY BUT NOT IMPROVING VERY MUCH. SHE SAYS "HI!" TO EVERYONE.
ALAN

Hi Alan, This is... Every time I listen to one of your creations, I sit here in front of my computer mesmerised. Your gift for creating wonderful music has never once disappointed. Time and time again you post songs of the highest calibre. I love the warm, inviting sound that your BIAB 'band' brings to this song. The aural textures blend together so well that the final result is such a very comfortable fit on the ears. I commend you on such a fine melody, too. In a nutshell... I thoroughly enjoyed this music journey. Please say hi to Di. I read in another post that 2019 has been a very gruelling year for you both. I hope that 2020 brings some joy to both of you. All the best, Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
