RAINS COUNTY TEXAS

This is my first submission in a while. I wrote this recently while I was traveling through Texas. It was raining and I'd just crossed the Rains County line.
I recorded and mixed the song in Reaper
Mic is a RODE NT1000
I appreciate anyone who takes the time to listen, and would welcome any comments that are offered.
Thanks
George

Really nice song. Since I am more of a lyricist, I would love to see the lyrics posted as sometimes I can't understand what the words are. But enjoyed it a lot.

Nice sound in general, and the vocal is good.

But the vocal needs to come in front, because it's much too quiet.

At the first chorus, the resonator guitar comes up in volume, making it even harder to focus on the vocal.

The bass can back down a bit as well.

Other than that, I really like the sound of this.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hey, George, this is a brilliant song. Your voice reminds me a LOT of Willie Nelson. This is my kinda country, nice melody, good story, and a great backing. Looking forward to hearing more in the same style.

Thank you for listening and commenting.
I'm a bit surprised about your recommendation of bringing the vocal more to the front. I mixed using both good headphones and monitors. It sounds fine to me. I do agree if I listen only on my phone.
I did bring the resonator guitar up just a tad in some spots for emphasis in the chorus, also did some panning that may not be evident on a phone.
Good Comments, Worth Considering

This is really, really beautiful. I personally agree, I would bring the voice JUST A TAD more stronger in volume, but what do I know? :-) I would also love to see the lyrics as I listen, but, again, that's just a personal preference.

In any case, great job! Professionally done, and your voice sounds just perfect for this, too. Really well done.

THANK YOU Sir
I certainly appreciate you listening and taking time to comment.
"Brilliant" is a mighty strong accolade, and being compared to Willie is humbling. I sure appreciate it.
This is the first song I've taken time to put on Soundcloud in quite a while. I have several more old submissions that I hope you'll like if you have time to listen.
Again
THANK YOU

I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.
I tend to get vocals a little to hot if I'm not careful, so I was holding back on this one. If I increased it at all it wouldn't be much.
Your comments are both kind and generous.

Hello George,

What I liked most in your song is the accent you sing in. To me -a Dutchy- this sounds nearly artificial, like in a cowboy movie. Don't get me wrong on this, I really like it, the smoky low voice and this articulation. I nearly longed for a smoke now, but I will take a rum and coke instead. The kind of melody is -of course- familiar, but still you had a very nice performance!

Probably you already changed the sound of your voice and the resonator guitar, because I heard nothing wrong in your song.
I also think its very special if rain falls in Texas, so to make a song of that phenomenon is a very good thing to do. If I would do that over here they surely think I have the Corona virus already.

I think you did very well with making this song, George!
Only the lyrics...,
Hans

THANKS FOR LISTENING AND COMMENTING.
What you're hearing is just me and the way I speak and sing. A little rum and coke never hurt a fellow, so have one for me.
I was driving home through Texas, in the rain, when I crossed the Rains County line. That's where the idea for the song came from. I suppose inspiration is were you find it, and for a songwriter, it's always welcome.
It's surely nice hearing from someone a world away.
THANK YOU

I liked this a lot, you reminded me of George Strait. I also listened to some of your other tunes on Soundcloud, liked that Bob Wills thing a lot. Keep posting!

Really like the song and the sentiment, George. Your voice is perfect for it, but I, too, would prefer it more up front. The raised resonator in the chorus took my attention, but I liked it in the solo. Nice work with the fiddle, too. I got used to following the song with the lyrics, too. Your other songs are really good, man. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy whatever happens!

THANK YOU SIR.
On the advice of you and other listeners, I've gone back and raised the vocal just a tad in my original mix. I was afraid I'd overpower the song, but I believe it sounds OK.
I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.

Old Country is most likely what you'll get from me. I write a little "Western" music every now and then, but I've never posted any. Might not be a bad idea.

Great song. Fits your vocal style perfectly. Like the STYLE you chose and the mix. I'd like to see the lyrics too, as some others have requested.

Excellent work. Keep em coming
