Big time user of BB, but total novice at RB.
I'm trying to wean myself off my old Cakewalk DAW in XP (yes - XP). In WIN1O I loaded an SGU in to RB, slow as thick syrup but it got there. Then laid a guitar track in. One section is a little quiet (playing error). In the old GTPRO2 all I had to do was right click and 'split' that section, then select '+3db' for that section.Job done. How do I do that in RB please. Bests Ian

I replicate this in RB with minor differences. Rather than split the track, highlight the area you want to affect.
1. Rt click on the track and from the drop down menu select: Audio Effects... \ Gain Change
2. There are presets for boosts and cuts or you can manually set the parameters

Another way to get volume changes on a track is to use the "volume nodes". To see these, move your mouse pointer to the bottom of the track you are working on until the pointer turns into a double arrow.
Click on the bottom of the track and drag it down until a blue horizontal line is seen at the bottom of your track. On the left, click the drop down arrow and change from 'Gain Nodes' to 'Volume Nodes'.
Now you can click on the blue horizontal line to place volume nodes, drag the horizontal line up or down for that section of track you wish to change the volume of. I've been using these volume nodes for several years now and they work reliably to change the volume of a section of track.
I've also used the way Charlie mentioned and that works well also.

.. all I had to do was right click and 'split' that section, then select '+3db' for that section.Job done.
In RB, as mentioned above, the closest workflow I know of is to simply highlight the section of that track Then use Edit - Audio Effects - Gain change Look at the presets (and pay attention to the check boxes and radio buttons) This will hard write a volume change in one fell swoop .. or a fade in/out, depending on the button selections
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I prefer Del's method using nodes. Using Edit/Audio Effects/Gain Change bakes in the changes, nodes can be edited when you return to a project after a day or so and don't like what you did.

Yep, there are lots of ways to do it. I was just suggesting a method that is similar to the way he was comfortable doing this previously in another app.

be careful with the nodes. you need to do before and after nodes otherwise the program will simply change gradually to the new volume - that caught me out first time round.
click the first node at the place where you want the volume to change at the current set volume (if its 75 set the node at 75) then as soon after as practical set the new volume node and the volme will immediately bounce up. at the end when you want to reduce the volume do the same. add a node set at the higher volume then immediately after that a node returning to the original volume. if you don't do before and after nodes the program gradually slopes the voume like a continuous fade.

The same reason I only listed a single method.

Hi folks and thanks for all this great info. Just one slight problem - my brand new Win10 drive just went 'phfutt'! Back on Monday but will require yet another full install of BB/RB - as well as everything else. Bests Ian

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
