Here's something that has been puzzling me. Quite sure I have been making more of it than needed, but here goes: Link #1 is to 2011 piece of mine in A-D-E-A titled "Street Scene" because it fits "Streets of Bakersfield." It also fits, "In Heaven There Ain't No Beer." https://soundcloud.com/ed_shaw/amajstreetscenenov16th2011Link #2 is to a video of Dwight Yokum and Buck Owens performing that same song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qItru7hZqzUNow, here is my puzzle. Notice that my rendering is simple 4/4 and 1-4-5-1 (Repeat) In Buck's and Dwight's rendition, a musical break appearing to be four beats follows every line. How do they accomplish that? Is that a fill? Is that played on the second A of the progression? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Id say both you and Dwight are using the same chord pattern, repeated in the same way; with no additional bars from Dwight. But your feel is more on the beat and Dwights is more on the up beat.
You could shift Dwights melody bang onto the beat, but it would not be pleasing. It swings along better if sung over the chord pattern.
Even when the accordion player comes in to solo he waits slightly to pick up the feel, but the chord pattern is consistent throughout.

Thanks Duncan. You are telling me the same 4 X 4 bar pattern in 1-4-5-1 (Rpt) can work with either the fill or the wall to wall, dependent upon the timing. I have been told the Mariachi or Mexicali feel has to do with this emphasis on the upbeat. We also know that Buck Owens, known for the Bakersfield Sound, is also associated with Tex-Mex, a fusion form of Southern Texas and Austin. I'll go back into it and see if I can get a handle on it. Gracias.

Try the Roy Uptempo Classic Country from the Style Picker. That should be a good basic upbeat feel to practice on.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
