3. Any other tips?

There are workarounds for additional functions as you suspect. Most are really additional features but they aren't used by many or very often. As Matt says above, there is only one Audio Track but it can be used more than once in a project. In fact, it can be used a dozen times if that's what you want to do.
Also as Matt says, for a serious project, it's better to use a DAW or the DAW included with Windows PC, RealBand. RealBand was specifically developed to address these more advanced techniques and procedures swiftly and easily and with more user control than what can be done within BIAB even though these things are easily accomplished in BIAB.
For me personally, I enjoy the challenges and rewards of using BIAB as a digital multi track recorder. BIAB shares many functions and performs similarly to hardware based digital multi track recorders like the Tascam DP-004,006,08,03 models, zoom R8,R16 and R24 and even models like the zoom H4N and Tascam DR-05.
Because BIAB is a virtual multi track recorder rather than being hardware, using its additional and unique features like MIDI capability, generating RealTracks, Chord Chart, tempo and key signature control that hardware devices don't have, BIAB quickly outshines hardware multi track recorders. From a collection of thousands of Styles and thousands of instruments to choose from, BIAB can create a song comprised of dozens of instruments combining Midi instruments, Loops, RealTracks and multiple Live Audio recordings onto dozens of tracks mixed down to a first generation stereo audio file in various formats such as WAV, AIFF, MP3, WMA or M4A.
But on to your questions
1. Can multiple audio tracks be kept in the same file or does it erase each time?
Yes, multiple audio tracks can be recorded onto the One Audio Track in the BIAB Mixer. From the Record Audio Window, Record and keep your first take. Check the Overdub underlying Audio Button and any subsequent audio recordings will be merged together onto a single audio recording residing on the Mixer Audio Channel. Note that BIAB will automatically mix the various takes that merge into the single track.
2. Can one preform punch in without erasing the previous recorded vocals?
Probably. Record a Punch in/out and keep take. Check the Overdub underlying Audio Button as described above and using the same From-Thru settings, repeat the process. I don't recall actually doing that with Punch in. If I were recording a track in sections, I would select the Record Audio From Button and check the From Bar # Button.
3. Any other tips?
. Each of the seven channels in the BIAB Mixer can have up to 10 instruments per channel. This allows for the seven channels to play independently or simultaneously, 70 instruments in a single render of a song. There are several ways to access and program these changes and this is a very useful feature. In the later versions of BIAB, these instruments have individual volume and panning.
Search the StylePicker for Medleys to audition and hear styles that PG Music staff have put together.
PG Music staff use this feature to develop thickening styles.
Hopefully it will benefit you. Some things in BIAB aren't very intuitive because of varying terminologies, functions scattered around different menus and many folks no longer take advantage of some of the midi capabilities of BIAB. Feel free to ask questions if you think I may help you in anyway.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
