I brought in a song, MusicXML form, from iReal Pro. Now I am trying to put in the repeats, codas, al capos, etc.

I put in a few repeats, played the song, and there is an F drone. I stopped the song, am writing this, and the F drone keeps going. It sounds like someone is holding down an keyboard note.

What is it? How do I make it stop? Or is a tsunami really coming? (I live in the Sierra foothills)

I'm looking for a place to learn how to put in all those things. The video tutorial goes fast and is not helpful.

Ha. Yes, I've had this happen from imported files.

BIAB used to have a Panic button to silence MIDI. To my knowledge, that is no longer there. But just exit BIAB and it will stop.

Once back in the song, go into either Editable Notation Mode or Staff Roll Notation Mode (Piano roll), find the offending note, and change its length.

Thank you.

I found the Piano Roll and the line showing the F. I don't see how to delete or change it.

I can also see the F in Notation but I can't edit it.

I brought this song in from iReal Pro, having visions of BIABifying it and having a lot of fun. I brought it in MusicXML form, according to some suggestion I found on the internet, I think by a BIAB person. Maybe things can't be imported and I'll just have to enter the whole thing by hand. It is a Choro and fairly long, with repeats, second endings, etc. and I'm having no luck finding an understandable way to input those things. The manual and video go fast and skip over things a beginner doesn't know.

It seems a little pointless to for the solution to be turn off the program - makes the song hard to work with.

I appreciate your help.

You should be able to load either Music XML or type 1 MIDI files into BIAB.

Importing files will not have any endings, tag etc. You will have to modify the BIAB file to get those. I think that's still a lot faster than manually inputting the song.

In Editable Notation Mode, right-click on the note head and you will reveal a dialog where you can change the duration.

In the Staff Notation Mode, grab the end of the note and move it to the left to shorten it. If it's as long as you say, it might be easier just to delete it.

I don't think it is necessary to shut the program to kill a rogue sound. I believe the panic function still exists and can be applied by hitting the F12 key.
Good luck.

Correct, Panic! is still there and is listed as F12. I recall we had a recent problem with it not working. Perhaps that is fixed, since I just got to a computer and it worked for me. Thanks, cxp.

MIDI has two ways to silence a note:
1: By inserting a corresponding Note off event
2: By setting the corresponding note volume to zero

I understand that BiAB uses the 2nd method.

So if you searched through the MIDI data, you will probably find a note on event but not the other.

You may be able to resolve by editing the MIDI and performing the insertion at the correct location.

To delete it... click on the note and the bar turns red. Now press the DELETE key on the computer's keyboard.

To change the note, it can be dragged up/down and forwards/backwards.

To shorten the note, hover the mouse over the right vertical edge of the note's block shape and drag the edge to the left.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. I've had your problem and I use Piano Roll to eliminate the note.

FYI, I just had a MIDI note stuck on and F12 didn't stop it.

Build 715, and it's a song I wrote with no imported file.

I agree. I have had droning notes that F12 doesn't stop. Occasionally the stuck note will commence the moment play is pressed. When that occurs it is repeatable and then the only way to stop it is to close and restart the program. Most annoying.

I went to File, Save Special, MIDI (which I was going to do anyway). That stopped the stuck note. There may be other actions that will work without exiting BIAB. Still ...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
