Hi, I am opening a BIAB file in real band. The drum real track is coming in but it is blank and for some reason it picks up the wrong description. It shows the description of one of the guitar tracks. All the other tracks are coming in properly. I attached a picture of the BIAB image and the real band image. I am using BIAB 2018. Is this normal or a bug? I think it was occurring in BIAB 2016 and even in BIAB 2012.
Are you saving the Band-in-a-Box file as a MGU or SGU file or as a MID file?
Do you mind attaching the song file or posting a link to it so someone can take a look and see what is going on? Below the reply text box there is link that says File Manager. Click on it and you can attach the Band-in-a-Box file.
Weird question but are you expecting the midi embedded in a RealTrack to play? RealTracks likely has midi but the midi is intended for transcription and may not play correctly because of 0 velocity levels or notes that have too short duration. Does the Band-in-a-Box song file have midi tracks?
So maybe if I upgrade to BIAB 2020 this issue would be corrected. I may do that eventually but mostly for BIAB use. I turns out I can more easily and much faster send my BIAB tracks out to individual .wav files in BIAB rather than using Real Band.
The RDs rendered fine here from your file also. Who knows, may be a setting somewhere like 'let Realdrums substitute style' or something .. Anyway for the first 2 forum members that tested it works fine.

It gives the same result with file, open or file, import I didn't start using real band until BIAB 2016. I was not changing settings. I cannot say for sure if this occurred in BIAB 2016 since I was not normally opening BIAB files. I was just dragging in .wav files created by my mixer's recorder (BIAB tracks were mixed to 1 .wav file already). This is the message as it is working.

I added an image. Another thing. I just activated Real Band 2018 for the first time yesterday or the day before. I have touched nothing in terms of settings (fresh out of the box). However it was an upgrade from 2016.
Well your RD track is appearing as a MIDI track .. realdrums are audio. (see image I posted as well as others in this thread; they are generated as audio tracks, not MIDI) So it's not generating that track correctly for you. The rest of us see an audio track .. you can't assign realdrums to a MIDI track, which is what you are trying to do in the popup in your image. MIDI is MIDI and audio is audio ..
You could select a blank track and try generating the RDs by themselves .. but for the rest of us it is working as expected. Maybe try getting the last 2018 update for RB (?) https://www.pgmusic.com/support.realband.htm#2018_5
If you want to test, another thing to try is saving the BiaB file as an SGU file (instead of MGU) .. see if that opens differently in RB. May want to also make sure RB is pointed to the same folder for the Realdrum source files that BiaB is using; if RB thinks the RD is missing it may resort to substituting a MIDI drum track .. which seems to be happening here. This would be expected behavior if RB can't find the Realdrum source files. This is in the Options- Preferences - Song Generation tab in RB.

John, Here is an idea you can try. I would make a backup of the MGU song file before testing.
In Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) Press Ctrl + E to open preferences. Select the RealDrums button on bottom row, far left. 1. Press "Clear" button to remove existing RealDrums 2. Select jazz brushes RealDrums. This forces that RealDrums selection for THIS song.
I tried a few other different songs and they worked.
I tried the problem song and it did not.
With the problem song I tried changing the real drum track in BIAB and the first time it changed the drum track and the guitar track to both be real drums. So I shut it down without saving.
With the problem song I tried the above again and this time it worked (the new drum track came in and the guitar track was unchanged).
With the problem song this time Real Band rendered the real drums properly.
The only thing that is wrong now is the midi melody is out of sync (not sure if that problem was there before). It is fine in BIAB. My understanding is the track can be shifted. (I have never done this).
What seems a bit strange is since you guys picked up the exact same file why did it work on your machines?
Different machines often yield different results. This is expected (and relied on) for testing problems. It helps narrow down possible causes.
Glad things are working now. You are using 2018 far as I can tell, so maybe some of this has been long cured, which would explain others not experiencing the issue with the same file.

It seems the file was partly corrupt possibly by BIAB (or corrupt relative to real band standards). It may be that the 2020 version of real band detects and fixes corruptions when it reads the file in as opposed to my having to fix the file with BIAB 2018 so real band 2018 could read it in.
Ever since I've been a forum member Noel96 and others have suggested running a suspected corrupt Band-in-a-Box song file through RealBand to filter or remove the corruption. Surprisingly enough I'd say about 50 per cent of the files I suspect are corrupt become usable after RealBand performs its magic on the file.
The steps are real simple. 1) Save suspected corrupt SGU or MGU file in Band-in-a-Box. 2) Load suspected SGU or MGU corrupt file in RealBand. 3) Save suspected corrupt file under a new name as MGU or SGU file. 4) Load new name SGU or MGU file into Band-in-a-Box. 5) Test new name MGU or SGU file to verify if it does, or does not work.
RealBand does not use all the settings Band-in-a-Box places in a SGU or MGU song file. My suspicion is RealBand changes file settings it doesn't use to default. That's likely because MGU and SGU files are native to Band-in-a-Box and RealBand was modified to import and export those types of files. Since the files are not native to RealBand the program uses defaults for the stuff it doesn't use.
I have created an entry in my Microsoft Access reminder database with a cut and paste of all your suggestions including links back to your posts. That way if it happens again I will be less likely to have to ask again :-)

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
