Hello,

Currently the choice of the clefs split point is a general option for Band-in-a-Box and thus it is imposed by default on all the songs.

It would be nice if the separation point could be different for each song:
- firstly, not all melodies have the same amplitude;
- secondly, this would allow to enter bass lines on the melody track, which is useful namely for funk! ;
- moreover, this would improve the distribution of notes between the two staves, which is currently automatic and that is not ideal for a piano player who records himself in MIDI on the melody track !

Thanks in advance.

I can see some possible usefulness for changing the split point, but I didn't understand the relevance of
Quote:
- firstly, not all melodies have the same amplitude
and how changing the split point affects the amplitude (or visa-versa)

Hello Videotrack,

Imagine you have a song with a melody going from C5 to F6. If the clefs split point is set to C5, all the notes of the melody will be on the treble staff, and it will be easy to read.

Imagine now that you have another song with a melody going from G4 to C6. If the clefs split point is still set to C5, some notes of the melody will be on the bass staff and some will be on the treble staff, and the melody will be not so easy to read (especially as Band-in-a-Box defines notes and rests durations by staff : if the melody is split between treble and bass staff, the notes and/or rest do not have the same duration as if the melody is only on one staff).

But if it's possible to define the clefs split point by song, you can fix it to C5 for the first song and G4 for the second song, and each melody will be easy to read without having to change a general clefs split point before playing a song or another.

You could say : "ok, then set the general clefs split point for example to E3, and any melody will appear completely on the treble staff!".

But what if the "melody" I want to enter on the melody track is in fact a bass line : namely for some funk songs, the bass line is as important as the melody. Listen for example George Duke "It's On" !

You could then say : "ok, enter the bass line on the soloist track and choose another clefs split point for the soloist track as it is currently possible in Band-in-a-Box!".

But what if I prefer to enter the bass line on the melody track to save the soloist track for a soloist real track?

Or what if, another day, I want to use the soloist track for a second treble melody voice: listen for example "The Prayer" as sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion or "Vivo per lei" sung by Andrea Bocelli and Heather Headley?

In these different situations I will have to regularly change the clefs split points. This is why I regret the impossibility of setting a clefs split point by song, and I think that this would be a useful function.

Make good music !

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
