I just love going back to this song and remixing it. I hope you enjoy it one more time if you've heard it before. And as always great big thanks to Janice for the remarkable vocals!!!

I Will (2-2-13)

I will build you a strong house to spare you heartache
and to keep you from drowning a sturdy new boat
I will search for good omens to guide through life
I will sing you jubilees for your everlasting soul

when scallywags call I will turn them away
for your hunger pangs I will dig you a row
I will rock you to sleep from a long day of strife
and when you curse my name my silence I will hold

I will kiss you goodbye cause I know you can't stay
I will swallow my tears until I'm alone
I will sleep with your pillow all through the night
If I can't be your rock let me be your stone

may the love that I woven warm you someday
then memories of me might stave off the cold
may the lessons I've taught you fit you just right
and the old house I built you, will you one day call home

Great to hear from you Lawrence. As you know this song is so special to us as I sang it at the wake of a best friend.

“I will sing you jubilees for your everlasting soul.” That line always brings tears to my eyes.”

I’m thankful to have been part of it.

Simply stunning! Superb vocal arrangement, emotive lyrics and a lovely tune.

The phrasing and blending of the voices was just lovely.

Lawrence,

Always good to see you drop by. And always great to hear this one again.

The duet quality of this is outstanding. Two great voices - you and Janice (needless to say).

For my tastes, there is a bit to much high EQ bump in the overall mix. The acoustic guitar is a bit too crisp (I think). The vocals seemed "accentuated" too. A personal opinion - I believe rolling off a little of the high EQ on the vocals would give them the "warmth" they deserve. They are great performances.
Just thoughts.

A stunning song.

You should come around more often!

Lovely song. Beautiful lyric and incredible vocals and harmonies. So glad you reposted. I agree with Floyd on the mix. Just a bit harsh on the headphones and monitors.

Lawrence, Janice
Was not around to hear it the first time it was showcased.
Excellent all the way. Stellar performance from both of you!
Mix is very good, but I agree with FJ about the "warmth" suggestion. I think it will add more depth to vocals. Enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.

A great remix that again reminded my of John Prine.

Great vocals, as usual, by both of you.

My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Hello Lawrence and Janice,

I have heard this song before, but it's feels it got much better. Especially your vocals came more upfront, Janice!
Although it already sounds brilliant to me. I can imagine how impressing this beautiful song must have sound when you sang it at the wake of your friend; even I got goosebumps reading this while listening to the song...

I haven't heard the EQ issues mentioned here, To me it souned ok. But some have much better ears than I have.

I just love it,
Hans

Hi Lawrence
First hearing for me. Beautiful song, wonderfully sung by you both. Your voices blend really well (and to my ears when male and female voices do that (e.g. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, among many others) magic happens.
Regards,
Leon

Wow! Such a gorgeous song and performance!!!

The simple backing tracks and stellar singing are just so good. And when the bass line comes in, followed soon after by the drums, the songs gently explodes and wafts so nicely and fills my ears with the beauty of uncomplicated simplicity. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it's what I felt as I listened.

The vocals are simply precious. I cannot think of better word to describe them. Whatever musical prowess I might have is humbled by this wonderful track.

Wishing both of you the very best. Please be safe ...

Alan

Thank you for listening and commenting. I appreciate the kind words about my vocal part. Lawrence is a fine writer and singer and it was an honor to be asked to join in on his song.

Lawrence,
Simply one of the finest songs I`ve heard on this forum; worthy of as many versions as you care to record.
The beauty of vocals here is a bit shaded by the eq harshness others have noticed- its all wonderful otherwise.

Thank you all!!! I truly appreciate the comments and feedback about the mix. I have gone back and attempted the address the eq issues. I don't know if I've fixed the problem but I did try.

And thank you to Janice, I really thought by now we would have worked more together but who am I to predict anything. I'm just a humble worker-bee.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
