This song resulted from a rare stream of conscience lyric florish where I wrote the first thing that came into my head while listening to the biab THERIDE.STY.
For better or worse (probably the latter) , I didn't want to overthink the story but rather quickly catch the mood I was in and record it all on one Saturday afternoon session.
The beers helped smile Sigmund Freud might explain it as some kind of lost youth lament !
I've got a thick skin and welcome any constructive criticism.
BTW I don't know the protocol here regarding the frequency of posting songs so apologies if this is too soon after my last posting.

The lyrics'd help.
You voice sounds just a little disembodied..IF you used the reverb that was on the parts within BIAb that might explain it.
Stream of Conscious lyrics aren't uncommon in good music.
I wasn't fussed on the solos.
I think your melody and the general lyric are pretty good.
That drum bit at the end could do with surgical removal.

Cheers

Yep , I agree , I was not blessed with a good voice.

Yep , I agree , pretty lame.

Thankyou for listening and taking the trouble to comment.

Hey , I just realised you are a fellow Aussie. Do you ever get up to the Northern Rivers ?

I really like this. A lot. An interesting "story" and one I can relate to, although a lot less dramatically. Thank goodness. The band is right there. The solo is very nice and nasty. You have a large hint of Joe Walsh in your vocals, I think. Music to my ears.

Nice to meet you, as I don't think I've hit anything of yours yet. The Showcase has been a bit overwhelming lately. Which I guess relates to your question. Depends on your aim. Just understand the more often you post in a given period of time, the less likely any given song will get attention. I'm not a long-time user, but I can't see that statement being controversial. However, do what you want.

Gary, I like this a lot. I thought your vocals were just fine. The backing tracks and mix is also fine.

I assume you are playing the lead guitar? If so excellent chops!

Very nice lyrics as well.

I enjoyed this very much.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

I agree that, if you posted the lyrics up, that would help some of us! That said, I like the voice, although (for me) it could sit more "in front" of the band ... it's kinda drowned by some of the band "as is" ... but it's a minor quibble! Otherwise, I thought the song is well written, well sung, and the band selection is stellar ... good job and please share more - no protocol here as far as I'm aware ... or, if there is, I break it all the time, haha ;-) Well done once more.

Thank you Tangmo.
It is nice to receive a review (good or bad) from an artist that i admire.
Since I discovered it "Close to the ground" has been my go to album for ideas and inspiration. I am currently working on tracks inspired by "Mountain Move" and "Talk to Me".

Gary,
Excellent tune full of energy!
I actually like dry vocals on it. I knew one guy, when he performed live, on some tunes he used a vintage Shure mic from 50s to get that "special" tone. This is very inline smile Don't listen to dusty Sigmund, he is full of bologna. I think beer is more influential. Enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your "voice placement" opinion. I am seeking such advice in order to improve.
Also thanks for answering my frequency of posting protocol question.

Gary - it's a really good voice BUT the reverb etc makes it seem a little disconnected from the track.
I've not been that far north for a while. It's a lovely part of the world though.

I enjoyed listening to your song. I'd like to read through your lyrics. Passively listening to the lyrics, I enjoyed them and found them catchy. I like how you worked the Brent Mason solo in. I thought it was you playing until I read otherwise above in your comments. Great job. Looking forward to hearing more of your songs.

You have a good feel for this both lyrically and vocally. Bottom line for us, irrespective of genre, is whether or the singer has soul. And you do and we enjoyed it!

J&B

PS: No rule but folks typically let a song "play out" before adding another, i.e., after everybody is through responding. That way more people will likely hear your song and comment. Also lyrics either on the forum or SC are always good. FWIW with a truck load of salt smile

Good song, vox a little low again, as others have stated a lyric sheet would be nice. Keep up the good work.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
