Hi,

The 2020 VST in my DAW was very easy to use. This was a random selection from BB. No mixing or anything. Played out with ezkeys, ezdrummer, ezbass, and dimension pro.

This is just an example of first try in less than 10 min to figure it out.

A few strange issues like track midi going away on it's on but easy to put back...most likely I am doing something....

I'm not sure what the 2020 VST is, but since you mentioned dimension pro I'm guessing you're a Sonar/Cakewalk user? I used to be until that fateful announcement. I'm also a fan of EZDrummer.

Take care.

Hi Scott,

I most likely would still be using Sonar but got a little put off by the whole thing. Now I use Studio One Pro 4 which is like Sonar in many ways.

I just received the latest version of BIAB audiophile which comes on it's own USB drive. It has a VST that will come up in your DAW so you can run BIAB inside your DAW.

You can drag a real track into a audio track or a BIAB midi track into a midi track in your DAW.
It is super easy and super fast. It also for me had a very short learning curve. It is very helpful for me because in the past I would create stuff in BIAB and export the tracks to my DAW.

Here in the next few weeks I am going to try to create a polished song using BIAB as the basic starting point.

The stuff I posted was just an example of what could be done very quickly with zero learning curve. Well...if you have some experience with BIAB stand alone.

Billy

Gotcha'. Thanks. SO4 here also. These days I create the song in BIAB then use RB to generate multiple RT's and export them as wave files to a folder.

At one time I was using that WAV drop zone. Not sure why I stopped, but I feel more organized using a folder I guess.

I hear ya. When Sonar was dying on the vine I tried Studio One Pro. I loved it and never looked back. I am now on version 5. I do miss some of Cakewalk's MIDI functions but not enough to DL the free Cakewalk as I can get by using Studio One Pro.

If you get stuck just let me know. I don't know everything about it but what you need help in may be something that I ran into in the past.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks Mario

I may take you up on that. I just upgraded to version 5. There are several simple things I have not figured out how to do. One is how to create a fade out. I read the instructions about clicking on the upper ? corner but have not got that to work yet.

Some things in Sonar were less trouble to find.

Thanks,

Billy

Love the backtrack. I had a little jam to it while I was listening. I also use Studio One 5 Pro. Using the BIAB vst with is a very cool tool. I have been converting my guitar tracks to midi with Melodyne as well and then flipping the midi files to Notion to create guitar tabs. The BIAB software just integrates so smoothly.

The VST is a very cool function that I'm familiar with and should use more. I'm just so used to generating or regenning the tracks and rendering them to a folder from which I drag them to the DAW. I'm an old phart with old habits and all the baggage that accompanies it! smile

The tracks sound excellent.

Sounds like you found a new way to write music. I also use Studio One and once I tried out the vst thingie I was hooked. I still compose in BIB but the vst makes bringing it into S1 sooooo easy. I even upgraded just to get the latest version because they really upped their game this year on the capabilities of this little jewel.

Kudos to PG for a fine piece of code that works flawlessly in Studio One. BTW I listened to some of your other stuff and you are very good. I look forward to hearing you more.

Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the kind words. There is a lot of test and other things mixed in with recordings I have made. It is kind of a mess at the moment on my soundcloud account.

I have been away from the music thing for a while. I have had to deal with some health issues for my wife and myself. I also tried to use my boat and go fishing while I still thought I had the energy to do that.

There are advantages to both the VST and using the stand alone version. I have been a lot like Bud said....old and set in my ways...lol Also I tried the VST when it first came out and P G Music was still working the bugs out. Looks like it is working pretty well now.

Cheers,

Billy

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
