I recently hooked my new keyboard's line-out into the line-in of my Mac (which itself is connected to a far better speakers system than my instrument has) and was hoping I could hear my keyboard that way while running & hearing the RTs of BBox, and without needing to be in record mode. But so far I haven't found any straight forward (hopefully quick & easy!) way to do this.
Anyone?
p.s. I also cannot seem to be able to see the Audio part at the bottom of the Mixer anymore like you used to in older versions. It now requires an audio data present to show up?

You shouldn't need to be in record mode but you do need to be able monitor the input.
Trying to remember how you do in 10.6.x using the audio input but give this a try: In Audio MIDI Setup.app, make sure that your Audio In is present and set to the same sample rate as BIAB. Now, when in BIAB, check System Preferences/Sound and make sure that your Audio Input (and not your microphone, Soundflower etc.) is selected as your In. Make sure that BIAB is using the same In.
Newer Macs since ??? no longer have an Audio Input including my 2017 iMac Pro and my wife's 2020 iMac (headphone outs only)—non't think my wife's and daughters' 2015 laptops do (my 2012 MBP does, however). This is easy with any compatible audio interface. Unfortunately, none of the inexpensive new ones will work for you—they support Core Audio but not before OS 10.11.x El Capitán. You need an older one that supports Core Audio in OS 10.6 or one that has compatible drivers. You then enable the track to monitor the audio without arming the Record button same as above.
BTW, I only check this board when someone messages me that there's a question I might be able to answer. I would have seen it days ago in the Macintosh board. This hasn't been a frequently asked question for over a decade.

This, provided I've done everything according to instructions, does not seem to do anything to change the situation, I'm still only hearing the internal soundfont sound. But there are also steps you mention that I still do not grasp how to do if they are even possible to do as described. For one thing, the program itself has no specific "sample rate settings" that I can find, let alone adjust (screenshots with to go with your instructions would've been of tremendous value). I can set the its audio preferences to "same as system", which should suffice for that purpose, but that still leaves the question of how to specifically set it to "monitoring" a-la any half decent DAW. This is something I'm starting to think simply does not exist in BBox yet, at least not on my platform.
So, I'm thankful for your effort and attention (I don't see anyone from PG offering so much as a word yet), but I'll need far more details, preferably visual ones as well, in order to get to the bottom of this.

Hey Eddie, Do you think something like this might work for you ? https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11333/lineinYou could try route the line in directly to your output device with this app, and then launch BIAB and see if you can play along with BIAB's audio output without record enabled. I'm not sure this would work, as I haven't attempted it myself, but maybe it's worth giving it a shot (it's free). Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know it says 10.7 only, but if you scroll about 3/4 of the way down on this other page you can find a version for your system (I posted the other link because it gave a better description). https://rogueamoeba.com/legacy/Like I said... I'm not sure if this will do exactly what you are trying to do, but doesn't cost anything to try. Hopefully this helps ! - Jay

No problem, Like you said... in OS9 you had a checkbox for "play through output" in the control panel and it was so easy. Core Audio is miles ahead of what the old Sound Manager was, so it's kind of surprising that such a simple, and useful feature was overlooked.
Glad it worked out for you !

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!
Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review
Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!
"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
