I'm looking for simple sock rhythm guitar and acoustic bass in 4/4 and 3/4 meters for backing tracks with Cajun music. I'm not finding it when I search styles. Anybody know specifically what styles to look at?

Welcome to the forums.

Not sure if this assists. Searching for 'Cajun' gives me this list. Note that most are MIDI:

Also note that "Sock rhythm is the standard rhythm for swing and classic jazz. It is composed of pairs downstrokes. The first stroke rings a little longer, and the second is a chop, so the downbeat and upbeat each have their own accent." Thus you may find some sock guitar and bass parts in the jazz styles. You wouldn't use the whole style just the individual guitar and bass tracks.

I hope this helps.

Silly question but what is sock rhythm? I don't think I've ever heard the term before. Can anyone provide the names of songs representative of the term?

It is where there you play four quarter note chords in a measure. You let the first and third chords ring while the second and fourth chords are muted and staccato.

Interesting video Mario, thanks. I have heard the style, but never knew the term that described the technique.

I have played that style for many years. However I never heard it called Sock rhythm either. I had to look it up. I guess I'm not to old to learn new things.

I agree with Mario. We've used "comping" acoustic guitar Jazz RT's for a sock sound in both bluegrass and western swing. It works well. Also check out the rockabilly acoustic bass RT's as they have some good walking patterns that are less busy than the jazz 4's.

Have fun,

J&B

PS Use the search features for RT's also in addition to styles. There are tons of RT's that work in multiple styles.

Really nice video Mario. Thanks for taking time to research and find such an excellent example. Brian explains it well and provides clear examples.

I've heard that rhythm all my life but never heard it called sock rhythm. Actually, I've never heard it called anything. Any time someone wanted that particular type of rhythm they would demonstrate using their voice and hands.

The (Django) alternating open / muted down stroke strum pattern is very common in "Cowboy" ballads like the Sons Of The Pioneers singing "Tumbling Tumbleweed".

I believe the muted / muted down stroke strum pattern appears on the "Gypsy" RealTracks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
