The goal of band in a box has always been since over 25 years ago when I started using it is to teach musicians how to better play music of any size. Any decent semi-pro or professional musician will tell you while they spend hours practicing, the most common way to learn a larger work of music is to break it down the smaller sections and at slower tempos. While looping a section/passage for drilling there needs to be a Count-In feature that "Counts-In" 1x per/loop.

This is crucial for 2 MAIN Reasons:
1. When you highlight the BARS/CHORDS to Practice, then press F10 Shortcut Key to begin Loop there is NO TIME to get your instrument/mind situated before beginning to play

2. In similar fashion as above when you are drilling passage into the ground and need a break in between each loop for you to recompose yourself before attempting to repeat the selected loop/passage.

This is another reason for a Count-In feature while looping. All you musicians and BIAB lovers out there... Your support is vital to the successful implementation of this feature. Please and Thank You!!

I can see how having a count-in before the first bar of a loop, even if the loop itself is one bar, would be beneficial in certain circumstances.

So +1 (I support) with the limitation that the user should be able to enable or disable the count-in feature.

I think that has been requested many times.
Is this what you want to do in Biab ?

Good point. I remember asking for this type of count in about 8 years ago.

Another +1

Thanks VT you are correct and I found my post in your thread with the 38,000 views, I forgot I made this:
Count-In based on actual time-signature of first bar
This can be modified easily with an F10 button under the Start button to count-in and play the selected loop section:

+1 for this.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Here's an updated tool to include Loop Start
Remove .mp4 and unzip
Download > Biab Count-In with Loop Start.zip.mp4

Watch: BB-AHK-Count-In & Start Loop.mp4

If you are running Biab As Administrator:
To run script only .ahk install https://www.autohotkey.com/ and set AutoHotKey.exe to Run As Administrator
To run .exe set to Run As Administrator

This uses the system audio for the count-in beeps so if Biab is set to use the same Audio Device, un-check the Always On in Device Driver.

Hello
I've just joined the forums. I recently upgraded to BIAB 2020 for Win10.
This loop count-in sounds like just what I want but I can't figure it out. I can download it and get WinRAR to open it but it's still an .mp4 video file which VLC player tries unsuccessfully to play.
How do I add it to BIAB?
Thanks - sorry if I'm being dumb.

"Remove .mp4 and unzip"
Windows might scan it first then it will open.

A "Count-In while Looping" function as described in the beginning/start of this thread would be very nice to have. Would be very useful when practising.

Hi Peter,
Strangely enough I'm not able to find this feature in BIAB 2024 wink

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
