Been trying to get them to address this for years, not only by me but with others, with only a token release of some 8th note based bluegrass styles.
They understand by now that a banjo plays 8th notes for the most part. I have been playing for 40+ years and have never seen any banjo, mandolin or guitar player play bluegrass using 16th notes. I have 50+ instruction books and literally around a thousand tabs I have collected over the decades in binders and have only seen less then 1% of them written using 16th based notes, and that was in an old printed instruction book.
If they get around to it, and that is a big IF, it would be a welcome change for thousands of bluegrass players who regularly use BIAB. I, for one, have adapted to the 16th note styles and only rarely do I have to resort to using one of the 8th note based styles, but I would like to see them redone in 8th base styles.
On 7-25-2020 Peter wrote in the previous posting about this topic:
"What BIAB needs is a mode to display the notation in cut time 2/2, and then you’d see 8th notes. In cut time each beat represents a half note. We did add notation modes like that for 6/8 9/8 and 12/8 but haven’t done cut time mode yet. That mode would be useful for styles like bluegrass, reels or sambas where you want the notation in cut-time (as if the tempo was doubled). Hopefully we can add that before the end of the year. "
We are still in the month of November so Peter and crew still has a little over a month to hold to his tantalizing prediction that they hopefully can come out with that 'mode' he talked about before the end of the year.

That's exactly why I brought this up again. I didn't want it to be overlooked again.
Did you read all the way through the first thread from 10 years ago? It's only 3 pages long so it's not like it's a long read.
Peter Gannon weighed in with numerous comments and we discussed it back and forth.
Numerous other long time BIAB users joined in like toucher, Notes Norton, silvertones, Russell DeMussel, Mac, jford, jcspro40, jazzmammal, flatfoot, Pat Marr, etc.
jcspro40 commented "This is a great thread, I've learned a ton from it. Thanks for keeping it civil & interesting folks!"
jazzmammal commented "I second the opinion about learning from this thread. I know squat about bluegrass except to say the few times I've seen it on tv or in a video I always go "wow, those cats can really play". It also shows just how much Peter really knows about all kinds of music. You know a lot, man."
It should enlighten you on the topic, but since you're not familiar with using BIAB or playing and using bluegrass tabs/sheet music to enter songs for backup tracks in BIAB, it may not.
Almost all bluegrass sheet music, tabs and charts are written in 4/4 time and uses 8th notes. That not only makes it a pain in the a*s to use these to create backing tracks when the styles are incorrectly created using 16th notes, it also introduces lots of other unnecessary problems.
I am so confused by all of this I am just not going to revisit it again. All the talk about charting and notation, and then this:
"No, bluegrass musicians don't use charts, sheet music or tab to play music."
Then, why???
Eddie,
You obviously are totally confused about the entire conversation.
It has absolutely nothing to do with using charts, sheet music or tab to PLAY music.
It is ENTIRELY about programming songs into BIAB with styles that correctly reflect the way the songs are written with the correct note value and number of measures.
You are right. I am confused. Why care about the semantics of the notation if you are going to learn them and play them by ear anyway? 200 measures at 360 is the same as 100 measures at 180, isn't it?
Can you send me a BIAB file so I can load it and hear what the discussion is about? Once I hear something "wrong" I will have a better grasp of what is wrong with it. Do the styles available now not generate the sounds correctly because of note values?
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.
1. How much did you make in 2023? 2. Send it to us.
Bob, I agree with you completely. You understand the problem and have more than appropriately described what is needed and patiently lobbied for it. I have a parallel need to see my preferred genre handled correctly. PG Music has acknowledged both. We do not need to rehash it here, only remind PG Music of the conclusions they already reached.

Thanks Matt,
The whole purpose of this thread was to check on the progress of a fix or at the very least a work around for the problem.
Peter Gannon told us earlier this year that he thought they could do it by this update and I was just following up on the progress.
As it stands now, it needs no further explanation as this has been hashed out for quite a few years now with PGMUSIC. The ball is in their court now again and all we need to do is sit back and see if they actually address the problem rather then let yet another year go by with empty promises.
At the most, 39 days and counting until the 2021 version comes out! I can't wait, the excitement is getting to me again.
Hey Bob and jcland, check the cut-time and 2/4 toggle settings in the just-released BIAB 2021. I tested them and it really helps me. The video shows this new feature nicely. If I'm right, you can mark this thread Resolved.

It looks promising but I'll have to try it before rendering a verdict. I'll update sometime next month but it may be toward the end of the month.
$199 didn't use to be a lot of money but since I'm retired it's a sizable purchase.
If it doesn't fix the problem I'll return the HD and uninstall the updates. If that happens I'll just give up on BIAB. I haven't upgraded since 2013 because of the problem.
Downloading it now. I will try it out as soon as I get it installed and will let everyone know. All the new styles look great as I don't play just bluegrass.
I watched the short version of the new features video and it just briefly mentioned it. This one does give a much better idea of how they approached the problem.

I do hope the new version solves it for you.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
