I use the F5 option to mute the melody after the first chorus, but on BiaB 2021 #804 at least, I find I can set it up OK, but after saving and reloading, it stops working and changes to the Mute at the relevant chorus+bar no longer work. The melody will just play on right through the song.

Worse still, changing the Mute flag on that chorus/bar no longer has an effect, i.e., I can revert to '------', OK, regenerate and play, reconfigure the 'Mute', regenerate and play again, and it still does nothing. I can even "Reset all bars", then set the Mute again, but still it does nothing.

For the moment I'm muting on the mixer.

I haven't tried any other changes or chorus/bar, just the mute.

Gordon.

Oh ... another oddity ... the melody has also just gone to one channel only (right) during the above.

Addendum ... Mute and solo on the mixer work for the melody, but volume, pan and reverb are not. (After update to 809).

(( Mixer volume, pan and reverb affect the regeneration, not the playback. Perhaps that's as expected and I've not previously tried adjusting during play. ))

Is there any chance that you have exported your BiaB song as an Audio File (Wav, mp3?). If so, the audio file with the same will play along with the BiaB SGU file. Check the folder that has the SGU file to see if there is an file with the same name.

I don't believe so. The file I'm opening has a .MGU extension and is 55k, which to would seem small if it contained any audio. There are no .mp3 files in the folder.

I've just tried changing the instrument to another MIDI (25 acoustic guitar), verified the mute, it now plays the guitar but again it doesn't mute. I then tried "no patch", but...

...that's another oddity that I've never properly understood: from the mixer I right-click, "Select MIDI Instrument patch"->"Select no MIDI patch", but it still plays the instrument, where I'd expected it to not do so. I do note that in the mixer description field it says: "No Patch" and "instrument: 0 <no patch change>", where that word "change" would appear significant.

I believe help is coming with the new round of fixes which is about to launch.

Release notes (build 810, Dec 16)

Fixed: Selecting a patch on the Thru track did not work.
Fixed: Master > Freeze All Tracks and Unfreeze All Tracks did not work.
Fixed: Switching MME devices had not effect until rebooting.
Fixed: Switching from MME audio drivers to WAS audio drivers, and then back to MME would result in no sound.
Fixed: Master track plugins were not saved in song files.
Fixed: Band-in-a-Box should attempt to load a plugin with jBridge if the architecture is correct (x64/x86) but simply not a VST plugin.
Fixed: Waves plugins were not loading.
Fixed: Slow redrawing when resizing Pianos on Mixer.
Fixed: Volume and Pan were not sent to the Default Synth for some tracks.
Fixed: Unnecessary 'Audio Plugin removed from track' notification.
Fixed: [F6] would crash program.
Fixed: File > Save Special > Save Song As MIDI File would crash program.

That sounds like they have identified and are fixing the volume+pan+(reverb?) oddity.

I can't see anything there, yet, that matches my F5 oddity, but I'm guessing they're checking and will fix if/when they can. I don't think it's operator error, but that has to remain a possibility.

Ya, that is odd. I have used the F5 in the new versions with no issues. It could be the "melody" track you are on. The Melody track is getting beat up pretty good in the bug fixes. It appears they are using this specific track stuff in the back ground. Will just have to wait to get it ironed out.

Good pickup, Dan. Yes we are finding that the Melody Track is being used for other 'temporary(?)' purposes internally. This may definitely be related. They are working on resolving, so hopefully that sorts the issue out.

I've just tried similar with mute on the bass track and that seems to work as I'd expected, but the melody track still doesn't. I'll try the others. OK the other tracks all seem to work as expected.

I've just noticed that the Melody track's VU-meter stops showing signals even though the track is still playing.

The melody track, still with that "no patch" is now playing on piano from power-up. I've checked with step edit melody and there's no embedded instrument from there.

So: BiaB is playing a melody instrument by default, obviouslt "thinks" it's muting it because the melody track VU stops showing signal, but the instrument keeps playing.

Anoher observaion that I don't understand. I'm pretty darned sure I could get the mute to work by resetting all bars, saving, closing BiaB, reloading the song and setting the bar again, but at the moment I'm failing to get that to work. Maybe my memory lets me down here, but I'm unconviced by that ... I just have no better explanation at the moment.

I'll reprise this as the problem seems still to exist, at least in part, in 825.

Per bar mutes (at least) on the melody track are not functioning.

I'm setting mute on the melody instrument on bar one of chorus two, but the melody continues to play. The volume meteres on the mixer for the melody stop from chorus two, but the instrument plays on.

I've just tried a couple of songs and both still do this.

Gordon.

Are you using the BIAB chorus, or an unfolded (one big chorus?

They probably behave differently

The choruses form. I'm not sure how this would apply with one big unfolded song.

OK, I've tried similar in the big unfolded version and it does the same. VUs showe silent but the track is not actually muted.
Muting the track with the M button on the mixer silences the melody as expected.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
