Hi All, Over the past months not doing anything much I have been playing about with orchestration. Here is a simple little tune. It started out throwing a few chords together and applying RECUERDO.STY a waltz which I lifted to 80 BPM (@ 70BPM was a bit too mournful) I then replaced the guitars with AmpleSound Guitars the Drums with AD2 the Strings with Vienna Instruments and Big Bang Orchestra added a Cello for Melody made a few other minor adjustments to the midi. Anyway here is what i ended up with. https://soundcloud.com/reevant/late-october-tooThanks All, Tony

Waltz’s can sound stuffy and stale, but you’ve freshened it up with lovely strings and some interesting harmonic turns. Overall the mix is very good and sound quality high. Seems like a good candidate for lyrics—why not give it a try? Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks, I had thought about adding some lyrics but that is not my forte. I either get a bit nonsensical or morbid never just right.

Jim Webb rarely wrote happy/fun/feel good lyrics, and look where that got him Haha. Well said. I really like the melody in this, Teunis. And yes, I can't imagine how mournful it would be at 70bpm. This waltz reminds me of, say, a father watching his grown daughter frolicking with his grandchildren, and remembering his part in the play. Simultaneously sad and happy.

Tony, Pretty waltz. Nice string work, especially interesting at around 2:00. Good mix. I do think slower drums, perhaps orchestral drums, would fit better. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Hi Tony ...
Nice to hear another composition from you. Di and I love orchestral strings and you used them to our ears' delight. My listen left me feeling a sense of deep emotion that circled around poignance, a calm sense of satisfaction, and reverie. I really enjoyed my listen. This is so well composed and arranged. Wishing you a very nice 2021.
Alan

Funny thing VT, I spent a lot of my life writing reports and stuff on data communications and technical things. Also writing every week for our weekly thing that goes out around the village yet I’m never happy with the lyrics I write. I guess I should just sit right down and write. Thanks for the thoughts.
Marty, yes I agree that would seem nice. I was thinking more along the lines of an aged ole man singing to the wife he has shared his life with.
Thanks Misha, I respect your views. I’ll investigate using orchestral drums. It is a bit of a cross of styles I admit with a couple of guitars in there as well.
I often read where folks are not happy with an instrument that a Style has out of the box. However, there are many ways to use tracks (particularly MIDI tracks) with whatever instrument one prefers (IMHO).
Thanks Alan and Di, I’m pleased you enjoyed it. I’ve had it sitting about for a few weeks and listened again then posted it. It is another one that basically just came out.
Thanks all, keep well Tony
