I created a waltz in BIAB using the country swing style "_CWALTZP.STY Country Waltz w/Piano Swing", that uses the sw8 "feel". Added a bunch of chords in the chord chart. Then I started to add a melody to the song using the notation chart. In that chart, because the song is a waltz in 3/4 time with a "swing feel", there are three regions for the three beats of the measure, and each beat is represented by three dashed lines, which makes sense for entering notes with a "swing 8 feel." However, I want some of the eighth notes I enter to have an even eighth feel. For example, in one of the measures I want the last beat region to have two eighth notes that are actually 1/2 of a quarter note each.
I figured out how to do this by right-clicking on the first note in question and clicking on the "change beat resolution" entry, and in the dialog I told it to to use a treble clef resolution of 2, and same for bass clef just for completeness I guess. Now, the last beat of that measure shows 2 dashed lines instead of three, so I was able to enter my two even eighth notes. Below is a one-drive file link that has a snippet image of the measure in question in the notation chart that illustrates this.
If I play the song, the two supposedly even eighth notes are playing with a swing feel, not an even-eighths feel.
I'm using the default "vibes" instrument, on the default melody track, and using the default coyote synth.
Why don't those notes play with an even feel, even though supposedly notated correctly? Is this a general limitation of BIAB? Is it because of the simple instrument I'm using for the melody? The simple coyote synth? I'm still new BIAB so I haven't yet figured out completely how change some of the items mentioned, so I just left them as defaults.
The give-away that the two beats won't work is the the first vertical dashed line doesn't exactly with the first triplet dashed line. I'm not sure why this is happening. It seems strange. I'll report it to the development team.
In the meantime...
Repeat what you did but rather than choose 2, choose 4. Now enter notes on the first and third division in the group of 4 and see if this works. These also do not seem to be aligning correctly (this is a bug if that's the case and it will be fixed).
If this doesn't solve the problem...
Click on the "Opt" when in Notation Mode (on the left above the treble clef -- see the second picture, below). No deactivate "Triplet resolution". Once that's done, enter your notes and then re-activate the triplet resolution.
UPDATE: I tried switching to a beat resolution of 4 at the appropriate spot. When I did, it clearly showed that the two notes I had entered previously were taking on a swing feel when they weren't supposed to, with the first note on the first dashed line, and the second note on the fourth dashed line. So I moved the second note to the third dashed line, and now the section plays as it should with even 8s.
This is a great way to do what you want. I use another method. I edit the dialog box for the start and duration of a note after right-clicking a note in the Editable Notation Mode.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
