I saw a video on YouTube by Henry Clarke that shows you how to import a midi into BIAB and separate the instruments, one by one, by using "Copy Special/Copy Move Tracks."

Whenever I look at my midi with MuseScore, it has 8 instruments. When I open it with BIAB, I'm only able to map 6 of them. How do you add extra slots for more instruments?

In addition, my 3rd instrument is a French Horn. The only selections available on BIAB are Bass, Drums, Piano, Guitar, Strings, Melody (not selectable), and Soloist. What do you do?

Carlos these are simply the default legacy names for the tracks. You can place any instrument on any track and you can rename them to match. Of course there a few more fine details, but this should answer your question.

And in BIAB2021 there are now 16 more "Utility Tracks" which can accommodate any midi content.

OK, thank you Dan. That makes sense, but I just didn't know if it could be done. How about the first part of my question?

Note also, for changing Track Names, you need to also have checked the box in Options > Preferences > Show Custom Track Labels and Descriptions.

Hi. I haven't explored this in detail yet but in BIAB 2021 you may be able to expand mapping through the use of the Utility Tracks. It looks like the Utility tracks will let you map to all 16 channels. Like I said I haven't tried this yet but it looks like a good solution. Of course that also means 2021.

what are you trying to do? opening midis in RealBand puts all the instruments on separate tracks that you can see. you then have all the functionality of BIAB in RB to add other instruments or record live parts.

i can't think of anything most of us need that opening in BIAB will give you that RB doesn't - and RB will label the tracks with the names of the instruments and lay them out on tracks you can see

you'll need to set the key maybe because some midis don't have a key signature embedded

and RB should populate the chords and bar charts as well as BIAB does if the midi contains the information or you might need to use chord detection but you would have to do that in BIAB as well if that is the case

i know lots of people prefer to stck in BIAB for everything but often i find RB is easier to work with

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
