Would like to hear more interesting drum patterns and rock styles that cover modern prog, for example. Animals as Leaders comes to mind. Maybe even a DRUMMER SOLO function, so that the drummer can go nuts for a few bars (with or without other instruments) to add to the complexity of the rhythm. Also, get rid of the Metal chugging guitars and insert some riff-based stuff so that it doesn't sound like it's from the early 1980s.

I think this is too much to ask of BIAB, it cannot be all things to all people
I suggest you take a look at Jamstix 4 from Rayzoon
It is an Artificial Intelligence based Drum Plugin and its seems rather convincing to my ears
you can buy Metal Oriented styles for not too much money in addition to the basic package
best regards,
Bernard

Brian.
re drummer going nuts.
you can have the drummer going "ultra nuts" if you wish. lol.
just, at the tempo of your song fill a whole bunch of bars
with keyofsong followed by a dot followed by D for drums in biab or rb.
so if song is in KEY OF E eg china grove or back in black
then go potty with E.d and fill in lots of bar color changes.
ive had some really crazy drum solos this way.
then i xfer the drum trak into reaper or rb and edit to taste.
experiment with carats in biab ie ^ and ^^ also.
in fact you could have multiple traks of drums like 2 drummers playing.
you could do this for eg.
multiple of drums. (in daw from biab).
1. basic what i call bed guide song drum trak
2. basic shots trak.
3. solos trak for drum solos.
4. fx trak for drum solos.
5. second drummer trak (all the song)
6. fx for trak 5 eg use a guitar plug in down low .
what you do in this case is copy trak 5 to trak 6 ,
lower the gain of it, and then offset it a bit from trak 5,
then plug in a guitar vst. eg in reaps are guitar amps built in, get a bit of distortion going. try other fx plug ins on this trak. experiment with eq etc.
and EVEN MORE TRAKS.
useing these types of old studio tricks you can change the
whole sound picture of a basic drum trak from pg's biab drums.
its all studio TRICKS. you could also regenerate different rock styles useing biab built in rock styles.
try mixing , for example a nashville style with a LA hard rock style.

also in reaper is samplematic 5000.
you can load in samples youve isolated from biab drum traks.
and experiment with those.
and "sample triggering " etc etc.
you could have 20 traks of drums if you wish.
and via automation of trak volume lanes, bring in the traks
you want at the time points you want.

lets take a classic rok trak like "panama".
(for guitar players , detune all strings one semi tone, same with all along the watchtower.)
in the case of halens brilliant panama its in the key of E flat. THUS in biab chord sheet
Eb.D,Eb.D>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Eb.D gives you drums by themselves.
you could also, haveing got drums into daw (reaps/cbase/mixcraft whatever) retune the drums and see what you get. eg want a REALLY LOW kick drum DETUNE IT.
etc etc etc. to get a thumper. then eq it.
sometimes works, sometimes dont.

yes i would like more rok styles myself.
but artfull manipulation of whats already in the biab rok and other styles can get you lots of interesting vibes.
experiment with reverb small rooms/big rooms/rooms of different sizes via plug ins. experiment with eq's , choruses, flangers used in clever ways etc.
skys the limit. maybe grab some no royalty free samples off the net.

in a summary, YES , in some cases biab drums might not be apropo for certain rok slamming , but by useing clever tricks you can get interesting results that might just satisfy you.
son gs ARE work.
best
i'm a lousy drummer muso.

I will respectfully disagree with "I think this is too much to ask of BIAB, it cannot be all things to all people". BiaB is not all things to all people now! Some don't like jazz, some don't like country, some don't like hip hop, etc, etc.

Furthermore the more genre's PGM covers the wider the customer base will be. Plus I have found that BiaB's genres are not cut in stone as I have used country and or hip hop in some of my jazz, new age, and ambient songs.

Jamstix I understand can be a good addition to songs. I like Groovemonkee's MIDI drum loops as have used them either with or without BiaB's drums. I also have heard that ToonTrack's MIDI drum trackss are very good also.

YMMV.

Edit - OOPS almost forgot my +1.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
