I just updated my music software to Steinberg Cubase Artist 11 and it has a program with it that will separate prerecorded songs into individual tracks, it's called Spectral Layer 7 and WOW! I can take old songs rip the vocals off the recordings and make new tracks with them...What?...yeah I know it's magical...so to experiment I took one of my very favorite songs "You're Not Alone"...but I always hated the music track...so I ripped off the 20 year old vocals and made a brand new track for them with BiaB backing...well you can judge for yourselves but man I'm gonna go crazy updating old tracks...thank you Jesus for brilliant tech-guys!! Now the vocals have to much reverb but the version they give you for free will rip the vocals but just as they were recorded...I'm going to update to the Pro version and it will take all effects off the vocals as well.

Used BiaB Campfire style
366 Bass
1856 Cello
364 Guitar
368 Guitar
2883 Pedal Steel

Dan, I really enjoyed this. I recently discovered a tool called splitter that is a small scale version of what you just did..it has helped me revitalize tracks that I recorded 10 or 15 years ago, so I understand the excitement of being able to rework and improve older creations. It’s interesting to me that, after listening to these many times over the years, what you can do when you get a fresh start on them. I really like your choice of the style and the real tracks. The composition itself is lovely, the message very clear, and the vocal performances are exceptional. Thanks for sharing your work that has been infused with “new life”.

Vocal sounds great, as does the arrangement!

I've got the free Spleeter application, which I think is the program that Tom alluded to. But the stand-alone vocals don't usually come out this nice.

I'm looking forward to further remakes! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

David...this is the free version that Steinberg packages with Cubase 11 but I've seen (heard) what the Pro version will do and it's amazing...it will divide a recording into vocal, drum, bass, piano and other (category) parts...it will remove reverb and other artifacts from the vocals as well...it's $299 to update to the Pro version...and for me well worth the cost...(approximately the cost of one studio session)...Plus I get everyone back with 20+ years of strain and age off their vocals...I have hundreds of old recordings of past songs and groups...well I won't be writing any new stuff for awhile...that's okay!

Yep, that's in the free version of Spleeter as well. There's a thread here on the BiaB forum that discusses it.

And checking the Spleeter website, I see that Steinberg is one of several companies that have created commercial version of the free code.

I don't want to dissuade you from buying it. As you say, there are additional features that make it worth purchasing. I just want you to be aware that there's likely nothing about the version of Spleeter that comes with the Steinberg's application that you can't get in the free version.

If you've got the money, and like how Steinberg has packaged it, I have no doubt that it's well worth the convenience they've added to it, as well as the additional features. laugh

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
