Hi folks,

I've been struggling with this issue for years now. When making a held chord, pushed chord or a shot, the crash cymbals or snares, sometimes the bass drum is so extremely loud, it makes the play along useless.
Yes, I have lowered the db in the Real Drums preferences menu by 24db already, to absolutely no avail.

I mainly use the basic jazz Realtracks, that are in the Band Styles (best Real Styles) menu, in the jazz swing entries.

At the end of a song I often use a held chord. But instead of holdig the chord I often get a hit on the snare, that blows my speakers and ear drums.

When using pushes (I don't even use shots anymore), the cymbals produce a loud crash.
I already get complaints from my customers, who buy my backing tracks, despite almost compressing the drum tracks to death. I now just mute the drums in the last bar, to avoid the snare shot I get, when choosing a held chord. But I can't do that for needed pushes in the middle of the song.

This is so frustrating! I'm currently thinking of recording the Backing Tracks myself from scratch, bc I really can't work like that. All I need are drums and bass anyway.

This issue was reported years ago and it still hapens. Mind you, these are the very basic jazz swing Realtracks, nothing fancy. Please patch the Realtracks ASAP!

Thank you!

Sandra

Guten Tag Sandra
You say you reduced Db levels, but did you try to reduce velocity. This user recently reported some success with what sounds like the same issue as you.

Dan,
Thank you for finding/pointing a "workaround".
For some time too, I was confused why some shots or holds have that loud bang...
It would be nice if shots, holds etc. were volume equalized for arrangement automatically... and adjusted if needed.
Feature request?

Thanks for re-posting this link Dan. Just what I needed, just when I needed it!

Thank you! I did exactly that. Maybe I have to go with even higher numbers of db reduction in the Real Drums preferences.

Let us all know how it works. This has been a long issue and I was surprized to see this option available. Does it solve the problem? Yea or Nay?

If reduced enough it eliminates the rude drum hits and cymbal crashes or choked cymbals but it does eliminate the push completely from the drum track. I suppose pushed cymbals could be added in a DAW later.

I experimented a bit today. -50db seems to be a good compromise. -60db is way too low and less reduction, till lik -40db doesn't do anything at all.

So yeah, I can live with the -50db setting.

Thanks for the workaround!

Band-in-a-Box® File Associations

You may have noticed when you were installing Band-in-a-Box® for Windows that you were asked if you would like to Associate Band-in-a-Box songs and styles with Band-in-a-Box? But, what does that mean?

It's actually pretty simple - basically, if you select this option while you're installing the program, files with the extensions .SGU, .MGU, and other Band-in-a-Box files will open directly in the program if you select them from outside the program.

Ear Training Games in Band-in-a-Box® for Windows

October 1, 2021 is National Kids Music Day!

Head to the Practice Window in Band-in-a-Box® for Windows, and you'll see fun games that are fun ear training options for kids: Music Replay & Pitch Invasion.

Of course, you don't have to be a kid to like these games, I think there a fun way to learn at any age!

Music Replay is just what it sounds like - the program plays a 1-bar melody, and the user plays it back. Get it right, and you'll keep building that melody (and skill) within the game - get it wrong, and you'll be met with a warning tone and have to try again... it's quite addictive, and a lot of fun!

If you like a classic arcade game, then you'll love Pitch Invasion! We've managed to incorporate aliens with pitch-recognition skills in this exciting game, where you'll match the pitch of the alien ship descending towards your planet trying to destroy your collection of instruments - match the pitch and you've saved your instruments, make a mistake and the ship keeps coming... you'll have a few tries to get it right, if you're quick, but if all your instruments are destroyed - it's game over! The game speeds up as your skills improve, and you'll earn points along the way, with bonus points available throughout the game.

Open up your Band-in-a-Box® for Windows today to give it a try!

These ear training games are also included in Musical Arcade for Windows.
