Hello So why the change to e-commerce? The referenced company has the following on their site ... We enable software and SaaS companies to increase their revenue by 30% or more. Ok, tempting but if it means penalties for the customer it's like shooting yourself in the foot. I get the impression that PG music has not been aware of this consequence for its customers? I would like an explanation of why there now is a VAT on top of the pricing and we're not talking any customs duty or any physical delivery. Isn't there already a Canadian/US VAT included? Where does the extra VAT end up, e-commerce supplier, PG music or at the Swedish tax authorities? In the case of deliveries to Sweden it's a VAT of 25%, ok ..., tough luck. Having Fun Thomas

Thomas, We support our existing customers. This has been discussed in another thread and you can read the details there. https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=653817#Post653817 There are specials during the year, and during these times existing customers receive a discount. What’s new is that, during the specials, upgrading existing international customers will now also receive further discount coupons to offset these additional charges. So these international customers shouldn’t end up paying more if they order during the specials. btw) These are government taxes, the money you pay doesn’t go to FastSpring (Our eCommerce partner) or us. If your home government wants you to pay tax, FastSpring pays it directly to your government, just like any VAT that you pay. FastSpring also handles data compliance issues (data privacy, security), which are complex, changing and differ by country, and are not something that a small software company can deal with. And they handle logistics of dealing with the payment providers (visa, PayPal etc), who have their own set of (ever changing) rules. > We enable software and SaaS companies to increase their revenue by 30% or more. That “increase sales by 30%” is just marketing material, the only way revenue to us goes up is we sell 30% more products to people. . They (FastSpring) handle logistics and e-commerce infrastructure etc. leaving us more time to concentrate on making music software. So I suppose that the theory better music software could lead to 30% higher sales. A good feature of the new eCommerce FastSpring system is that it allows for much faster and easier ordering. And this has boosted our sales, with more people ordering, including new and upgrading customers. Because it doesn’t require an account at PG Music. Lots of people didn’t like the hassle of creating an account, and having to remember a password and log in to an account every time they just want to buy something. After ordering, you get an immediate email with download links to the product, just like with any software you buy. For those who do like accounts, your purchases through FastSpring are also added to your pg music account (within a day). And your order history is also saved by FastSpring, so you can access that (or contact PG Music) for copies of receipts etc. in case of lost emails.

Thanks for your elaborate answer Peter. It all makes good sense, the only remaining issues I have are: it seems that the involvement of FastSpring triggered the need to handle VAT, is it their decision or is based on legislative requirements which surely differs between markets? If your home government wants you to pay tax, FastSpring pays it directly to your government, just like any VAT that you pay. What if our home government does not require the tax for private purchases on downloadable software? (Haven't dived into the details of Swedish/European tax laws ..., it may be set by the legislation.) Is there no Canadian/US tax included? Which would mean paying tax on tax ... Also the responsibility is handed over to a third party to handle international taxations deriving from the sales of your products, i.e. transparency may run the risk of being compromised. Still a bit confused, but at a higher level PS I like your products but I like to know where my hard earned cash is going ... DS regards Thomas

Thomas, Fastspring bases the taxes on the laws of your country of residence. They keep current with legislative requirements in all countries. There is no USA/Canada tax involved, since you live in Sweden. Any tax you pay is a legislative requirement of your home country and goes exclusively to your home country (Sweden). You can look at other music software sites like Reaper. They use fastspring as eCommerce partner too, and so have a similar setup as we do. http://reaper.fm/purchase.phpAs mentioned, for Europe/UK/Nordic/etc countries with high VAT rates, existing customers might wait for the specials to upgrade, as we plan on offering additional discount coupons to users in those countries to offset the extra charge. That’s on top of the discounts that happen anyway during the special.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
