In the past I have not had problems with things I got from Amazon.
Now I got JFETS that were NPN transistors labeled as JFETS.

The recommended power supply for the Dell will not fit in the case. That is my fault for taking their word for anything.
And yes I know the power supply did not come from Amazon. It came from one of their vendors but Amazon is responsible for their vendors.
FedEx has screwed up the last two delivers in a row from Amazon.

The actual Amazon driver who comes to my house says the job is getting so demanding (300 packages a day) he is going to quit.

The pandemic has created such a high demand for products delivered to peoples houses that nothing is any longer reliable.

Newegg will ship per my instructions and I don't get counterfeit parts.

The national electronics supply houses such as Mouser or DigiKey have never sent me a bad part.

Amazon has gotten so big that things are out of control. They are often more expensive than other suppliers.

It is getting to the point you can't trust a lot of places now days.

Made in China consumer crap!!

Sorry to hear about your experiences Billy. I have found that I have to spend a little extra time and go through reviews of products and vendors before finalizing a purchase. Buying the first result you find can be a horrible experience. I purchase most of my tech there because their pricing is hard to beat.

Hi Steve,

Some things from Amazon don't require much research except for price. A Intel I7 processor or other well known items are not a problem.

I have seen others from forums such as diyAudio or EEVblog Electronics say the same thing about discrete electronics components from Amazon being defective or counterfeit. They sell a lot of stuff from a electronics supplier from India that has no datasheets and is very unreliable stuff. I normally don't buy that sort of stuff from Amazon to begin with.

The shipping issue is pretty universally an issue with all major internet sellers. I am trying to only buy things from vendors that I can control the shipping. I have accounts with both FedEx and UPS. When I ship or receive from them I almost never have a problem. I also demand that they deliver and not sub out the last mile to the USPS. It certainly cost more to do it that way. With Amazon there is little on no control of who will deliver the product.

When the Amazon truck makes the delivery I seldom have a problem. There is a language issue here because many drivers don't speak English. Sometimes they don't understand the difference between St. and PL.

Some things like high end video cards you have little choice as to where to get them because they are in such short supply if you can get them at all.

Bicycle parts are almost non existent for recumbent trikes. I have been told they are setting in shipping containers on ships anchored off Long Beach Ca. waiting to get into the port to be unloaded. I also understand that trucking companies are having a very hard time to hire drivers and especially those truckers who pull container loads as they pay the least of any freight to the drivers.

There are many problems with labor rates. People can no longer live on the amounts they are being paid. In the Florida keys labor is bussed in every day because there is no affordable housing to be had. Even at $15 to $18 dollars per hour at Burger King is not enough to attract workers in Marathon. Don't even mention what is going on in San Jose Ca. with school teachers living in their cars.

I just hope I die before I run out of money...lol

My nieces and nephew thought they were getting a great price on a game system from Amazon.

They paid $100.00 for a little plastic replica of what they thought they were purchasing.

Expensive lesson.

It was actually pretty easy to return the power supply to Amazon, Just answer a few questions as to why you are returning something and they will send you an email authorizing the return.

There are several places within a couple of miles of my house I can drop the power supply. As soon as they receive it they will give me a store credit in a matter of hours or refund the money to my credit card within a few days.

I am not going to the trouble of returning a $10 dollar item but something that cost $100 dollars is another issue.

The state attorney general in most states are inundated with issues of fraudulent advertising. We live in a world of pretty sophisticated criminals from the nickel and dime thieves on Amazon to the ransom ware criminals who shut down pipelines.

I would not be a proponent of bringing back the guillotine but the thought has crossed my mind...lol

Zero significant issues with Amazon. I carefully vet every item we purchase. The brown truck delivers 3-4 times a week here. We like the the delivery gals and guys as does our dog. Our purchases range from high end bike components (used to own a bike/outdoors shop) to electronics including many Apple products (Macs/memory upgrades/mobile devices, etc.) to food to multiple household items to clothing to tools to appliance repair parts to about anything we used to buy elsewhere smile The few times we’ve had an issue with an item the return for credit or another item was fast and seamless. We use an Amazon Prime card for all of our purchases everywhere we go and receive 7-800 dollars a year in purchase points. And to keep with the protocol of this being a music forum I’ll add that Amazon streams and sells our music. smile No need to remind me that others may have different results and feelings. I get that but wanted to point to a good experience beginning at the inception of Prime.

My experience with Amazon is the same as yours. Only once have I had to return anything and that was a wheel chair that came with a bent frame. They sent me a new one right away, even before they received the bent one.

I should have been more specific about what problems that myself and others have been experiencing.

The issue has been with discrete electronics components. An example of a discrete electronics component is a PNP transistor, a NPN transistor, a resistor, a capacitor, JFETs...that sort of thing and with deliveries.

In keeping with some perceived notion PG Music has a rule that only discussions about music are permitted, the part in question was used to build a small guitar amp to play music along with my BIAB audiophile program. I would also like someone to show me the written rule preventing discussion about anything but music.

I also have Prime. I also have received thousands of dollars of merchandise without issue. I never had any delivery issues until the pandemic except with the U. S. post office. Big Brown, better known as UPS does not deliver to my area for Amazon. I use UPS frequently for other vendors and have had great service from them.

Just in case anyone thinks I am the only one pointing out the current issues with Amazon, take a look at the following.

Headline from the Washington Post, "Frustrated Amazon shoppers vent at record levels
As the coronavirus pandemic roiled Amazon’s business, shoppers have complained more than ever about shipping problems from the third-party merchants on the site" https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/05/21/amazon-shopper-complaints/

"Some Amazon Drivers Have Had Enough. Can They Unionize?
AI surveillance cameras. Punishing workloads. Low pay. Worker complaints are piling up, and so are the roadblocks." https://www.wired.com/story/some-amazon-drivers-have-had-enough-can-they-unionize/

I could point out hundreds of other complaints posted on various sites.

So, just to be clear, I ordered some things from Amazon yesterday. Just not mismarked/ counterfeit components or taken their advise on what to buy.

Chears,

Billy

Here's the source of my "perceived notion." The title of this forum is as follows:

I have nothing but good to say about Amazon. I once ordered a 30" Toshiba flat screen monitor and they were temporarily out of stock so they subbed a 36" at no additional charge plus paid the shipping charges.

The only problem that I have consistently is with USPS. I can't tell you how many packages were lost but they were not worth the hassle involved to make claims against them, and being paralyzed would require getting someone to go to the PO. I have since changed my Amazon account to read: DO NOT SHIP VIA USPS! Problem solved.

Amazon has been wonderful to me. They raised my account to PRIME for my loyalty.

Billy, if I read you correctly what you are saying is that for "normal" purchases of everyday items Amazon is OK. But for specific purchases like discrete electronics you best go to a place that specializes in electronics.

Personally I would never a refurbished computer or electric item from Amazon. I would buy from either Tiger direct or Newegg. I have had excellent results with both.

Yes Mario, what you said is correct. There are some computer parts I have no issue buying from Amazon along with a zillion other items.

The issue of their semiconductors is beginning to be pretty well known. This issue is only relevant to the few of us here who build musical equipment and other electronics. It also effects people here who need to try to repair stuff.

Their delivery issues have been on every news channel in America. Nothing new about that.

I also buy from Newegg and use to buy from Tiger Direct when they had a store here in Miami.

This is the first line of this post "In the past I have not had problems with things I got from Amazon."

Perhaps if you have a fiduciary involvement with Amazon you may take exception with my post.

Enough said about the subject.

Billy

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
