First post in quite a while. I found an old MP3 Duet that was originally recorded from around 1994-1996 I did with a good friend, Debbie Lanier. I used a new feature included in BIAB, Spleeter to isolate and extract the Vocals from the MP3 and the ACW to create the Chord Chart.

I had to use Spleeter externally from the BIAB program due to it's file location is incompatible with the BIAB open command. It's intended to be installed at a specific location and I had the program on my PC before this feature was added to BIAB.

I'm All Alone

https://soundcloud.com/charlie-fogle/im-all-alone

****** Song Summary *************
Title: Me All Alone

Key=G , Tempo 112, Length (m:s)=2:55

Style is _DUSTY+.STY (Dusty Even-8 Country Rock Multi Style)
Memo: A country rock MultiStyle with eight substyles. A/B are the main rhythm. C/D are a minimal trio with shaker. E/F are heavier with baritone electric guitar. G/H include an electric guitar solo.

Vocals: ca 1994-1996 MP3 Spleeter Stem Extraction
Song dynamics and instrumentation determined by using 7 of the 8 BIAB Multi Style substyles.
All Mixing, editing and effects used in this song was completely done in BIAB using the ACW, Plug-ins, Utility Tracks and Audio Editor. Editing includes, volume automation and punch-in/punch out, over dubs, Fade in/fade out and smoothing transitions.
The BIAB Built-in Extract Stems feature Spleeter was used externally due to this third party file location on my PC is different from the BIAB default.

Sounds great! I'm glad you explained about using Spleeter, otherwise I would not have known because you made it so cohesive.

Thanks for sharing.

Great work putting Humpty Dumpty back together. Sound great, Charlie. Love that bass! Man, this is really seamless. Outstanding vocals. Thanks for the backstory, too.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I appreciate you taking time to listen in. I've found Spleeter to be a fun tool to play around with in BIAB.

Thanks for listening. The vocals were a bit of a surprise sounding to be extracted from an MP3.

I love this song, the vocals could stand to be a little louder, but that's just my opinion. Love the guitar solo!!

Really enjoyed this, Charlie. Great sounds (love the pedal steel) and first rate vocals by you both. Reminded me a little of something Gram Parsons and Emmylou might have done.

Charlie,

Well done. You know a crazy amount about BIAB. I've not paid much attention to Multi-Styles. This is the first time I've heard anything about Spleeter... Cool that you could extract a vocal from an old mp3...

Your duet with Debbie easily brings to mind Shelly West and David Frizzell. In fact everything about the song sounds like one of their hits - the lyric, the melody, the BAND... like it's 1981 again! smile

At times your vocal gets slightly overpowered by the bass guitar, so would have like to hear your vocal a bit louder and the bass a bit softer.

Great to see yo post one...it's been too long!!

Enjoyed.

Hi Charlie. Welcome back. Nice track and the vocals are spot on. BTW: Sounds like you used some interesting techniques in putting the song together. I never heard of "Spleener" sp. :-)

Lol, David, the original recording is so old, it was pretty current with the old school stuff you grew up listening to. Thanks for listening.

Charlie,

This is awesome! It sounds like it was recorded today... It's a great song and set of vocals, but the production is off the charts.

Excellent!

Nice work on resurrecting an old very pleasant song.

Sounds like it was recorded with the backing in mind.

Charlie,
an excellent song - the two voices belong together and your tech savvy problem solving is always a great example to others.
Nice arrangement and package.

The bass is a little loud and seems to go out of synch from about 1.20 for almost an half minute. There's a pause at either end of that section as if the bass track was split & slid aat 1.18 long a bit then some snipped off at the end of it lopped off before about the 1.50 mark. There's even little notches in the Soundcloud wave graphic at those points.

Now if it was deliberate then you succeeded in building tension then resolving it but in an unusual way.

Cheers

I completely agree.

I had a flashback remembering that I like country when country wasn't cool. I wish country stations around here played more country like this song.

Great work Charlie.

Thanks for taking a listen. Several have commented on the mix so I may have to revisit it.

Thanks for having a listen. MultiStyles are used a lot by PG Music Staff and they're a great arrangement tool. I used a stock BIAB 4 MultiStyle for this song which provided the equivalent of using up to eight different styles in the song because each MultiStyle has A and B substyles. While an artist is still working on a song, it's very easy to re-arrange section styles with a click of the mouse.

Multistyles are also ridiculously easy to create or customize and can be made from any Style. I have over 8,000 styles on my system and more than 1,000 are PG Music MultiStyles. They are a very powerful programming and arrangement tool.

Spleeter was added to BIAB in the latest version. It's a third party app that can be accessed from the Audio Editor once it's been loaded onto a computer. The program can extract 2-5 stems from any song with varying results. Since most BIAB songs aren't as heavily produced as a commercial release, Spleeter does a great job capturing a vocal track from a BIAB song. This is the second song I've posted that used vocals extracted with Spleeter.

I was pretty excited to come across this MP3 on an old HDD and enjoyed creating a new backing track for it.

I'll likely continue to work to improve the mix on the song. I appreciate you taking time to comment.

Charlie

Mr. Fogle...

There is something nostalgic and romantic in a bittersweet way about this duet. It summoned memories of watching male and female singing stars performing together on old television variety shows. Seeing a man and a woman singing to each other -- even if the song was sad, like yours -- seemed to validate the traditional expectations of commitment and togetherness in relationships, just because they were physically near and looking into each other's eyes in front of the cameras as they sang.

Anyway, the vocals in 'I'm All Alone' were just fine, with Ms. Lanier's voice sounding especially clear and sweet. The music you composed using the country rock multistyle was the perfect vehicle for the duet presentation. And the lyrics? Classic country story-telling.

Glad you pulled this one out of the drawer smile !

Hello Charlie,

What nice you could retrieve that old recording and extract the vocals. You did a very good job on that.
Although I think to hear a tiny electronical sound in the vocals of Debbie, it's wonderful how you can give this song and vocals a second life. Love that!

I had songs I made in 1976. they were on tape, so I couldn't do much with it. I had to remake some of them, but that is much different.

about the song itself: it's a very lovely melody and nicely sung. I agree with others who said the vocals are a bit too soft according to the instruments (bass!). If you can fix that, you have a good song again!

Hans

Nice song ... just some production suggestions: the vocals are hard to make out clearly, you may wish to sit them more up front in your mix and back off on the effects a bit. Good use of BIAB tracks.

Thanks for listening Mr. Henry. Spleeter is a third party stem extracting program than can separate any song into as many as 5 stems. If you or anyone reading this post want to try it out you can access an online version. One site is https://ezstems.com/. The online versions are lower quality than the download versions and none are good enough quality for a serious project but it's a lot of fun to play with.

I inadvertently uploaded a bad mix on this song. For one thing, I left the bass turned way up after some editing. But, I haven't done a project in quite some time so things should get better as time goes on.

I appreciate you taking time to listen and comment.

Thanks. I always liked the song and had lost track of it for a couple of years. It was a fun project.

Thanks for taking time to listen. I enjoy playing around with old tracks and spleeter. The download version is much better than the online versions and don't have near the artifacts to deal with.

I appreciate you listening. The bass track volume is a mistake. I did some editing and forgot to lower the volume and didn't catch it. At least we have the Users Showcase where this type and other genres can still be heard.
