Janice, Bud, Leon & Peter,

Sonic art...

I love everything about this production. It's hard to believe that this is not a pro-cut on an album. It's just so good.

I'm a fan and would buy the vinyl, CD & stream - EXCELLENT!

Hi Janice & Bud,

Nice intro with the mandolin. The chord sequence is well chosen with Janice's perfect voice. It's pretty and pleasing to the ear. I appreciated.

Lovely recording. I can't tell the difference between the "real" instruments and the BIAB "real" instruments. I think that's due to the superb mix. Everything is so clear. Great collaboration you guys. Top notch work.

Hi Janice, Bud and Bandboys Peter and Leon,

A lovely song you made, I liked it immediately.
I know everyone tells you that, but I am pretty serious now on this!
What nice you could make the band with all bits and pieces from others.
When I heard that mandolin I thought it was a Greek Ballalaika and your song would become a Greek one (where they dance with enormous pom poms on their shoes, the men wear dresses and your crockery ends shattered in the fireplace),. But it didn't!
It was highly entertaining with a very strong performance of Janice. Your voice sounds so very clear in this mix. I am hesitating a bit on my compliment (because I want to avoid 'your best ever'), but these are really very clear vocals!

There is one minor thing: all the songs you sang lately,Janice are dealing with not trustable men. Do you want to talk about that then call me. I am very good at listening (I think).
No, I'm kidding, but that is because this song made me act like this (a Dutch custom).
I enjoyed it a lot!

Hans

I thought to comment on the symbolism of the cover photograph. It does look like Janice is walking towards the light!

The whole team is on top of their game here. A "complete package". There is a "smoothness" that belies the difficulty require to achieve it...

A "pleasant" warning-there-is-trouble-ahead song - both lyric and melody.

As others have said, it is difficult to know where RTs end and "user added" tracks start. Seamless. Peter is doing some of his best work here. Seamless.

Do we need to talk about how good Janice is? Of course we do!! SO, SO Smooth. Always in the pocket.

The mix is so good it's hard to even talk about it. It is just simply "right". In all regards. Each element adding to the overall sound and nothing "sticking out". SO smooth!!...

Pro stuff.

Very pretty song. Lovely vocal Janice. Peter the mandolin is very cool. The acoustic was very tasteful dancing around the vocal. Loved the lyric. And Bud a perfect production which I am learning is an art in itself. +1 to what Floyd said "the complete package. Well done !!!

Just a quick word about the mandolin. I originally dusted off my mandolin tuned it and played around a bit.
Not being overly happy I put it away and picked up the guitar.
I then played around withe my Line 6 Variax.
Whilst it does not have a mandolin emulation it does have a good 12 string guitar.
I then loaded a Gibson mandolin impulse response on top of the 12 string (don't ask me how these work) and tuned it like a mandolin. Sounded pretty much like my mandolin - I did however cheat and re-tuned it as a guitar (I know my way around a guitar tuning better -although I mainly played tremolo on one string).\

No miking required.

Leon, great write!

Janice .... well, always great! Just a treat to hear you sing.

Peter, top notch work as usual, always right in the pocket. Mandolin sounds great, thanks for the notes on how you did that.

Exquisite band, sounds so very clear and balanced. Extra fine lyric delivered with that advice-giving yet compassionate warmth of Janice's voice. Loved the little fills shared between mando and guitar throughout the body of the piece. When they came together for the instrumental solos, some kind of magic happened. Just outstanding all round.

Everything to love in a package worth taking home.
The melody astride that progression - both are wonderful.
The faux mandolin is terrific...I've used a 12 string to do the same in the past though no impulses...wish I had em.
Top shelf from a top shelf REAL and Real band.
Bud, your ears and taste shine through the mix.

Janice, your voice is outstanding with so many different styles. You could sing a phone book and each name would have its own special feel. Peter, what a wonderful talent. You know I'm a fan of your guitar playing, and that mandolin is perfect. Leon, man, you can really write. Outstanding lyrics. Bud, nobody puts it together better.

I was in a band in the 70s named Just Passin' Through. Everyone but me in the group went on to be quite famous in the some music circles.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hans, thank you from all four of us. Bud and I thought Peter’s mandolin and guitar parts were pretty special.
I (Janice) keep smiling when I think of those Greek dancers with their giant pom poms on their shoes and I’m pretty sure we’ve seen some of those guys in a travel show. smile

The imagery in Leon’s lyric was so vivid for me and I’m quite pleased to see you thought the end result of it all was lovely. When I put a melody to Bud’s lyric I don’t worry too much since we have a mind meld but I rarely make a melody to someone else’s lyric and so am always a little anxious.

And about those untrustworthy men I keep dealing with, you know, I may just have to call you for some therapy!
I tell my sisters that the blues are full of those guys but apparently they follow me around to other genres too.
smile Fortunately, as Bud says, I'm a method actor when it comes to singing and those men are gone after the song is finished and we have been most happily married for 40 years!

P.S. We recently watched a travel show on the Netherlands and your pretty home town of Haarlem was featured.

Nice laid back tune. Good set of lyrics masterfully sculpted by Janice. Interesting vocal shift on the bridge. Nice acoustic playing esp. mandolin! Mixed very well, but I do think drums are a bit dry for this. The whole song is dynamic (vocals + instruments) but drums are a bit compressed. Might be my headphones. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Janice, thanks for your answer with the funny parts in it. What did your sisters answer on those nasty guys and you. Did they call it faith? But I think you must be a strong woman dealing with all those challenges. Especially the mariage of 40 years is a tough one! I'm close (37 years) and I know ;-)

What nice you saw some shots of Haarlem. Well, there is a lot more to see, only no pom poms. I am happy to show you around if that is the case. And it will be soon, I think, because you don't look at travel programs for no reason...

Dear Ms. Janice...

Give me the name of this no-good-for-nothing, 'love-her-then-leave-her' scoundrel. I'll track him down and beat him up for you laugh. !!!

Leon, your lyrics are so emotive that Ms. Janice could've spoken them rather than sang them and still have communicated all the empathy that you wrote into them.

Peter, I didn't know you played the mandolin. I applaud the extent of your instrumental talents, sir!

Bud, I've detected a signature sound in your mixes that includes everything you and Ms. Janice have posted on the User's Forum that I've listened to. Clarity, presence and spaciousness are what I hear. Nothing but the song comes through.

Thank you all for joining your talents together to produce such pleasing musical productions.

Thank you Ray. Janice smiled big time when she read your comments about her progression and melody! Yep, Peter fooled me on that mando and I've played with some of the best. I thought it was a processed mandolin. He also did the acoustic guitars solos the same way. All a mystery to me smile

This is an outstanding song. The mix is perfect; everything is crystal clear. Janice's vocals are always exceptional. This should be on the radio right now!

PS - Peter, thanx for the mandolin tip. I have a mandolin but find the frets are way to close for these old arthritic fingers, however I keep trying.

HI J&B, Peter and Leon,

A very relaxed production with a nice variation on the usual instrument line-up
and some lovely playing.

Lots happening in the backing but none of it getting in the way of Janice, who does
a superb rendition as always.

Good storyline and all wrapped up in a perfect mix.

Leon's lyrics are always touching and this is no exception, although it is not easy to follow the changing persons (I vs. he or she)
The melody dignifies the story very well, the chording and melody in the bridge part are especially beautiful.
Peter's playing is enjoyable, the mandolin and the solo part are simple but very effective.
Excellent vocals and very ear-friendly mix.

I don't know how I missed this! It must have dropped to the bottom when I was away in Michigan.

I love this song. Magnificent melody and excellent lyrics/story. The mandolin gives this song a special touch.

Excellent and professional sounding production.

I also missed this the first time through! I've been super-busy, but I'm glad I stopped in and caught it this time around.

Gentle sound, to my ears everything fits together so smooth. It "sounds" simple, and I mean that in the best possible way - all the parts fit perfectly.

And of course, excellent singing by Janice. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

PS - Peter, thanx for the mandolin tip. I have a mandolin but find the frets are way to close for these old arthritic fingers, however I keep trying.

Thanks Mario! We get that old arthritic finger thing for sure.

Good storyline and all wrapped up in a perfect mix.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
