Greetings. I was disappointed not to hear back from tech support on this. If you my $ then a response is required...BUT - next year I am leaving to go around the world on a motorcycle. I will be filming in regular and 360 - and have built a music production system for the bike based around the Mixpre 10T interface. The plan is to create, perform and record and film grass roots indigenous artists from all over the world.

And I want to turn my motorcycle into a musical instrument that generates MIDI data as I ride. Triggers on shifter, throttle, brakes and I even have a gyroscope midi generator figured out so as I lean the bike....All this will then be edited for sound tracks to the video and turned into songs where appropriate.

I have a lot of this figured out - but not which software to use. I already own Reaper and FL Studio...but having used BIAB before and running into it again, I'm wondering if this may be the best solution to use. Here's what I hope to accomplish:

As I start a days ride I'll be able to judge what kind of roads I"ll be on, tarmac, dirt, mountain trails etc...And I'll know my mood - I would then select a style of music for the section matching the road, the mood and the culture with a style. Then midi inputs control arrangement, arpeggios, key changes, tempo....etc...

Yes, I have a computer built and designed for this that will be running while I ride....I'll NOT be listening - as I would like to stay alive while riding...so it will be edited after the fact and added to....

Your input, comments, suggestions and opinions on whether this software may be the best software I could use would be most appreciated - and if so - what package?

Thanks for reading.

While I don't have any answers, suggestions or recommendations, I did find your proposal both interesting and challenging.

Re: "And I want to turn my motorcycle into a musical instrument that generates MIDI data as I ride."

Can I presume that this MIDI data will consist of Control Events that you will add musicality to later, or will your throttle, shifter ad brake interactions generate the notation also?

Good luck, very ambitious. Do keep us informed.

Useless. No tech support - no forum support - no money going to BIAB. Folks - the community surrounding a product is as important as the product - so thanks for answering my question.

Useless.

What brand and model of motorcycle do you have, maybe they could offer you the MIDI support you require.

Hi KRTW, while we can't help on the software side with your motorbike's electronics generating some music, if you're able to make it generate MIDI that data can be saved as a MIDI file, you cna import that file into Band-in-a-Box which can then attempt to generate some sort of tune from it. Otherwise we do not suggest integrating Band-in-a-Box into a motor vehicle.

We do think this is a really cool project, and hope that you'll post some updates on here if it proves to be successful. Best of luck!

I recall asking you a question and seeking further clarification on how you intended it to interface, which you didn't answer.

Less than 24 hrs..... didn't want to wait for people to jump in on a topic that is extremely unique, requires special knowledge and expertise to do what the OP is wanting..... and in the many, many years I have been in digital music, I have heard a lot of things people wanted to do in a musical sense that was....shall we say... out of the normal use..... I have never heard this particular use for music software before.... ever.

I think calling the software, the company and it's staff, and the users here in the forum "USELESS" in less that 24 hrs after such a unique post, is quite rude.

I don't understand this question, apparently, since I would just take a small digital recorder and record the sounds. Upload them to the cloud daily and keep a log for the video editing that will take place in the future.

And since this is being done manually: "I would then select a style of music for the section matching the road, the mood and the culture with a style" then I do not understand where MIDI input comes in at all. Are you looking for some engineer to design a sensor?

But I don't ride motorcycles so perhaps I'm missing the point. Do people listen to music while riding? Is that safe?

Totally puzzled by this request, and the attitude shown so far.

It is a rather unique foray into the digital music world. But yes.... you can listen to music while riding. Many riders have some really loud speakers... kinda like the cars you can hear the bass from a mile away.... and then there's ear buds and sound systems built into the helmet. I used to use ear buds, but that can be painful on long rides. And depending on the loudness of the road noise and bike muffler or lack thereof.... you can't hear very well in most cases anyway. Every time I rode, I kept my head on a swivel and my situational awareness on max.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
