Hello,
I'm using RealBand 2019 under Windows 10. If I open a BiaB song in Real Band and try to record my guitar along with it (injected through a FocusRite Scarlett 2i2) onto a track that I have set as a mono audio track (because otherwise I only get a single channel of a stereo recording always panned hard right), it will apparently record just fine as the song plays -- but when I stop recording it asks me if I want to save the take, and if I say "Yes" then RealBand immediately erases the recording. That sure seems like a bug rather than a feature, but I understand so very little about RealBand that perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious. Though not for want of reading the manual, for what it's worth.
I should note that I do not have this problem if I don't use BiaB files first, or, more exactly, I can record a mono acoustic guitar, and then a second mono guitar track, and edit/re-record to my heart's content.
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. I have a silly workaround, which is to record the guitar in stereo and then when I am absolutely sure I don't need to modify that track ever again, split it into two mono tracks and delete the blank one ... but that seems like a lot of work to get something that ought to Just Work.

Hi Peter, Since this issue doesn't occur if you don't use BIAB files try this: Open the BIAB .sgu file in Realband then save it as a .seq file before trying to record a new track. Just to see if this makes a difference.

Well how about that ... it worked! Thank you!
Now the $64K question. WHY did that work? (And a much less important question: How could I have figured that out on my own?)
BiaB and RB are, um, baffling. I suppose I'll get the hang of them one day. Problems this basic do not encourage me, though the help on the Forums is encouraging!

I'm glad this worked for you Peter! Not sure I understand why you were seeing this particular problem. I just suggested this because it is the workflow I use. Create the song in Biab, open the file in Realband and save as a .seq file, then record my tracks.

At least it works, even if we don't know why! Thanks again.

Peter,
What track did you try to record your guitar on? When an MGU/SGU file is opened, the first 13 tracks (in RB 2021) are set aside for the MGU/SGU file. Track 14 is the first that allows for user input.
With this in mind, you might also get a solution by using "Edit | Track | Make all BB tracks regular tracks".
One other point is that the SEQ format is the only way to save non-BIAB information. So if your recording is on the right track yet the save-format is still SGU/MGU, the recording won't save. There should be a warning about this when you try to save.
Regards, Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
