So.. I have a song that starts in one key and, later on, it changes to another key. But I'm not a professional jazz/gospel keyboard player so I don't know any really good progressions to move from one key to another (just a couple of really basic techniques).

I would LOVE to see a feature, rather like the auto-intro generator, that will automatically create a key change progression for me, and create another one if I don't like it, and so on. And, like the intro generator, it'd be nice if I could specify how many bars the progression should run for.

For example, if I have a song in C and the melody finishes on a C chord at bar 16, then I have the melody starting again at bar 17 (on an E chord) in the key of E, I'd like to be able to click on bar 17 (the new key signature) and choose an option to auto-generate a key change progression of, say, 3 bars, from bar 16 (which was in C) going from the key of C to E.

Welcome to the forum. You are looking for a feature to generate and insert modulations.

I congratulate you because to my knowledge no one has requested this before. You can insert bars, and you can insert a new key signature, but you now have to write the chords to accomplish the modulation. This would be nice to be able to ask BIAB to construct that and specify the starting point and duration.

Although BIAB has an Undo feature, it would be important to make sure it works for this feature.

Good idea.

+1

PS - This would work very well with the regenerate only a few bars wish. One could regenerate the modulation measures until they find one they like.

BIAB has this feature and it will do all that you list above and more.

It's BIAB calls the Medley Maker and is located in the Tools Toolbar|Songform|Medley Maker. It specifically create song modulation transitions at user defined number of bars and these transitions can be either regenerated any number of times like the intro generation does or the automatic transition generations can be overwritten by the user to their own choice of chords.

It can either create a medley from:
1. Different SGU song files.

Or because the user can stipulate the start bar and number of bars to play and the number of bars to transition,

2. BIAB can create a Medley from different sections of bars from a single SGU file determined by the user selecting specific start of bars and lengths to play while creating a transition between the sections.

Note that in the Medley Maker screen shot with song data, that the same song is used in each 'song' and file selection and only the start bar, total number of bars and the number of transition bars are input and updated. This causes the Medley Maker to play each 'song' although it comes from a single SGU file, to play the specified bars between the modulation transitions.

When the user completes input of the songs information or sections to play and then selects the Make Medley Now Button, BIAB creates a temporary new SGU file to play the user programmed Medley. The Medley SGU file can be rendered and it can also be saved as it's own SGU file.

I've attached a Link to BIAB Medley Maker tutorial. Note, there are two Medley Makers included in BIAB but the other utilizes RealTracks. Both are included in the tutorial video from 2019.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
