I saw the upload notice for this a while back on fb but I wanted to wait until I had enough free time to give it the listen I knew it would deserve.
You guys have a knack of finding these old songs and putting a modern spin on them, man, what a great song!
Great intro, and Peter always does a fabulous job on the guitars.
And Janice! She absolutely nailed the vocal, I don't see how it could possibly be better. And man, that scat is one of the coolest things I've ever heard! Just outstanding
Great song, great arrangement, great performances by all plus a killer mix = perfection!
Great opening. Immediately think "this is a good mix!" and a comprehensive band sound to introduce the song and the players. SOLID.
There is NO question - That girl should be a STAR. (She IS a STAR in my book). A "truly gifted singer" doesn't even begin to describe it... Simply - As Good As They Come.
Peter's guitar work just keep getting better and better. This is polished to a very high gloss. A stunning solo!!
Bass and Drums are PERFECT. Piano is tucked in nicely.
Scattin' brings goosebumps.
DAMN! the mix on this is good!! Pro. No Doubt.
"Hitting on all cylinders" and then some.

What to say regarding your comments?
We hugely appreciate your review. Simply stated it makes it all worthwhile.
Great job, the mix is spot on! Can I ask a few questions...
- In your song description for the drums
Drums: RealDrums Blues Rock Shuffle > Waves CLA Drums Snare double from from RD file sample > Waves CLA Drums Kick double from RD file sample > Waves CLA Drums Cymbal from RD file sample > Waves JJP Cymbals
Do you export the BIAB drums to midi and than use the Waves CLA Drums to be triggered? And then play it along the BIAB file? Does that what you mean by double?
I love the drum sound you have on this.
As well what does Public Domain music mean? Thanks for the time and consideration for my questions, I'm trying to get better at the mixing and mastering aspect of music production...so I ask people who are good at it.
Killer blues number—wonderful production, every single element. Peter’s guitar solos shine; Janice does her usual awesome job on those smoky vocals (nice scatting!). A wonder what you guys do with some of these old tunes. Sounds fresh and new! Great stuff!
Fabulous performance, really bringing this song up to date with a vengeance.
Obviously, Janice is flying on this one, but then so is Peter with what is almost a metal solo. I can hear what Nigel means about the solo being too far back, but I also agree that the volume is about right. I think the answer lies with the reverb, which seems to position the guitar further back. Maybe a shorter reverb would place it better? A minor thing anyway, and the mix is generally great. Loved the song. Cheers, ROG.
Thanks ROG. I’ll defer to Peter’s response to Nigel regarding his guitar tracks. We felt they sat well in the mix. We’ve done 55 songs with Peter and I’ve never added an fx to his guitar
Damn, you are so good! Janice - Big A+ From swinging vocals to freestyle impro - Amazing! Peter, fantastic guitars. Solo is a killer. Bud, great work of putting it all together in one fantastic package. Super arrangement, mix and artwork! I believe Bessie would approve. Congrats team! Also, thanks for the glossary! Enjoyed it, and thank you for sharing.
Misha.
You are very generous Misha. Janice was delighted you liked her scatting. She often scats guitar and sax solos around the house . Your mix comments are greatly appreciated and we too hope Bessie would approve.
I go for the Black cat bones! I have to of those black creatures, so within some time I have a lot of them (bones). That Bessie is some vengeful woman if you take her man. But she could make very good lyrics on that too! And the three of you made a marvellous song. The vocals are rock solid, but that is a 'normal' fact. And so is the band (but that's a normal fact too). I enjoyed it very much and can't say that enough.
Did Bessie sang herself this kind of song? Did she sang more of these Hoodoo songs? Or did her new husband stayed long enough? By the way, now I'm trying to make me some of that gris-gris! Looks like usable stuff...
Kind regards, Hans
Hey, good luck with the gris gris. Let us know if you win the lotto
Bessie did a very slow version with a completely different melody and we could not find any other songs like this from her. The Hoodoo and Voodoo songs were somewhat popular in the 1920's.
This is so good that my "How Fantastic Is This Song?" meter went beserk!!!
From arrangement to performances to final production, this is very satisfying listening.
Janice: Your singing was way beyond brilliant. Your performance was bursting with sparkle and shine. After listening to this, I'm convinced that you own this genre! I loved the way you interwove your vocals with Peter's outstanding guitar playing. In so many ways, this was a duet of superb soloists coming together to create a masterpiece of the very highest calibre. Your scat singing had me grinning from ear to ear. It was sensational. You and Peter reminded me an awful lot of Cleo Laine and John Dankworth. In the below clip, Cleo does quite a lot of scat singing against John's saxophone playing. If you have a listen, I think you'll see why you reminded me of this couple.
Peter: Your guitar playing was absolutely incredible. I don't think I've ever heard you perform better. It seemed to me that you and Janice thrived on one another's musical energy. There was a remarkable synergy between the two of you that created a work where the "whole" was so much more than the "parts."
Bud: I don't know how you managed it, but you captured an incredible live-performance feel. This is truly a fantastic arrangement and mix. I envy your ability to pull this together and create such a fine finished product.
Literally... I'm blown away with the talent on show here.
Lord only knows what kind of spells you was casting with that scat verse. Guys, this is killer. Excellent rhythm section with Peter in the lead. Janice singing every blue note in her repertoire from falsetto high to deep and dark. Excellent leads. All mixed clear as a Louisiana moonlight. (I don't think that's really a thing, but I'm sticking with).

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
