This is a song that a couple of songwriters sent to me last week and asked me to see what I could do musically to make it fit. I wrote the music to it, and rearranged a few words here and there and this is the finished product. The two songwriter are Tina Neumann, and Marcus Upchurch. Out of my own curiosity, I started looking up the names and places mentioned in the song, and was amazed that it gives an accurate description of the era of blues in the Mississippi Delta!!

The Mississippi Delta Highway 61 Blues

https://soundcloud.com/ronniefields/mississippi-delta-hwy-61-blues

Old blues live through turn rows in cotton fields,
winding through the delta and down the river bend.
B. B. King’s birthplace off highway 82,
Charley Patton father of the delta blues.

Chorus:

it’s The Mississippi Delta Hwy 61 blues,
the stories to the lives before rolls inside of you.

There’s Panther Burn and alligator towns that make it great,
Clarksdale and Vicksburg when you cruise across the state.
You see the devil’s crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul,
to play a mean guitar decades ago.

Repeat Chorus:

Poverty and pain still rampant today,
King biscuit time radio where Sonny Boy played.
American blues music started by slaves,
but right here in my heart, the talent melts it all away.

Bridge:
Mississippi in the summertime,
cotton fields I can hear them cry.
Blues ring out from cars , passing by,
on hwy 61 man how time flies,
it’s a Mississippi state of mind.

Repeat Chorus:

Chorus II
A music born, out of pain and scars,
John Lee Hooker rocked the world
and ruled our hearts.

Repeat Chorus Twice

Nice job putting that track together Ronnie! The stories from that part of the country are too many to tell! I'm sure the truth has been stretched a bit in many of those tales but it adds to the mystique of the blues! I have a story or two of my own from playing music down in that area back in the day but that's for another day lol! Take care, Torrey

Nice tribute to those musicians and no doubt those
that lived a life of toil have little nostalgia for the cotton fields.

Hi Ronnie,

This is my kind of music.

I like the backing and your voice which suits the song very well.

Mix - a couple of suggestions:

1. It may be my speakers and phones but there appears to be little going on the left side of the mix. If you have the stems available it would be good to put one of the backing instruments on the left and pan it around 40%.

2. Vocals - are you using any compression? A little compression would lift some of the lyrics that are little indistinct.

Regardless - I think this is the best song I have heard from you on this forum.

Best Regards
Nigel

Cool song. The blues and Southern Gospel met at those very crossroads. It's the story of Cain and Abel. Good work Ronnie.

So well done, Ronnie. Love those stories and you put them together in a song that fit the era perfectly. Fun groove of history.

Enjoy whatever happens!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
