Good evening! I have been researching the ability to import items into BIAB, but all the videos I have watched have been super detailed and I don't have the basic orientation down. Possibly you can broach the very basic concepts with me.
It appears that a variety of file types can be imported into BIAB. One would be an MP3 file. That sounds interesting. What will BIAB do for me by doing this? Can it really decipher the chords and make a chord sheet? Is it accurate?
I think BIAB can also import MIDI files/songs and I think I understand that. Those can then be manipulated in BIAB.
A peripheral question is that I have a large collection of iRealpro fakebook songs in that program. Can those be used in BIAB? I suppose I might need to export them from iRealpro and import into BIAB to have the chord progressions.
Can you orient me just as to the concepts of this aspect of BIAB?

The Audio Chord Wizard can review the chord structure of a song and create the chords. You do need to 'hold its hand' a little to get good results.
Two videos to review:
BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones

What is the file extension of the iRealpro fakebooks that you have? If they are .MID or an audio file extension, then yes you could import them into Band-in-a-Box.
In general you can drag the accepted files from your computer and drop them into the main Band-in-a-Box screen in order to import them. You will also find various different options for importing under File | Import, including the feature to import just the chords from a MIDI file.
Sorry for the late reply. The iReal Pro won't let me get at the song files themselves, but I can export them to wav, midi, or AAC. Music XML too I believe. Thanks.
Thanks to VideoTrack for the links to videos. I did not know that was the name of the feature. I will explore. As usual you have been wonderfully helpful. Slowly learning!

I hadn't realised iRealPro would do that. Useful.
Importing MusicXML or MIDI seems to have a few problems at present in 2022, but should be a good way to do this. It also has the option to export Notes or Chord Chart, which should give good flexibility.
I've just noticed that they also (now?) publish the iReaPro file format, which might prove useful.
I tried importing just one MusicXML file and saw nothing in the chord chart. More detail here:

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
